Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Looking for an unusual addition to your home orchard for both fresh eating and dried fruit? Prefer to make organic snacks for your family, rather than buy them from a store? Consider the Honeyjar Jujube (Ziziphus jujuba 'Honey Jar') as a fun, memorable tree to add to your collection.

Its narrow-pointed bright green leaves and slim branchlets give the tree a very wispy, graceful look. The yellow blooms are unique and smell like grape soda, attracting a wide variety of nectar/pollen-seeking bees and butterflies! These winged workers will help bring on the self-fruitful crop of delicious fruit.

Self-fruitful means it won't need a pollinator tree (although will produce more if another Jujube is nearby...) so enjoy one tree or select another partner like the popular Li Jujube, or Sugar Cane Jujube. Increase your crop and extend the fruiting time with mid and late-season harvests!

The trees are found throughout Asian countries and the healthful, medicinal, and tasty fruit is widely used! Grown and loved for over 8000 years in China, this fruit tree gives you a "two in one" edible landscaping ornamental fruit tree!

Want an easy-care tree that can handle extreme cold, heat, and just about everything in between? Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 5 to 9, the Honey Jar is one of the more cold-hardy varieties of Jujube!

Planting and Application:

The balanced growth of the Honey Jar Jujube tree makes it a great choice as an ornamental accent tree, for instance, to bring a full, wispy, glossy green accent to a dull corner of the yard. This beautiful edible ornamental has many uses in the landscape! It makes a wonderful shade tree when allowed to grow to full size. Then just enjoy the fruit as a tasty bonus!

The Jujube is also a tremendous barrier plant that looks great along a fence to discourage unwanted visitors. The Honey Jars thorns can be quite a surprise to an unknowing intruder. For yourself, the knowledge that there are thorns is all that is needed to avoid them. Just take care and use garden gloves while you harvest the delicious fruit.

Eat the fresh fruit when it starts turning yellow with red spots (just before ripe) for a crunchy, apple-like taste and texture. Or, wait until it's fully ripened (red and wrinkled) for a sweet date-like experience!

How to Use Jujube Fruit

Called the Chinese Red Date, it is considered a superfood with the fruit's medicinal value being treasured in Asian and Middle Eastern cultures. The three primary ways to enjoy the Honey Jar is - fresh eating, dried or sweetened (candied). But you can try juicing them and making preserves! You will have plenty to try all of this and more as the staggered ripening process of these trees lets you not need to harvest your fruit all at once.

Dry or dehydrate to create this ancient culinary wonder called the Chinese Red Date. You'll love the taste, and benefit from the extreme punch of Vitamin B and C. and packed with trace minerals as well as a great source of antioxidants. The health benefits of this superfood cannot be understated.

What a great harvest for your winter baking needs! When dried the Jujube can replace raisins, or traditional dates and is better for you.

The ancient way of enjoying the Jujube is as a tea, very simply boil 10 pitted dried red dates in water and serve. No need to add sugar. Those experienced with serving Jujube teas are known to add ginger, brown sugar or other flavor-enhancing ingredients. With your own tree, you can experiment with creating your own unique Jujube tea!

  • Delicious Date-Like Superfruit
  • Grape Soda Scented Yellow Blooms
  • Fruit Can Be Eaten Fresh, Dried or Candied
  • Healthy & Medicinal Fruit
  • Multi-Purpose Tree, Shade, Ornamental & Edible Landscaping!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

The Jujube plant grows in many different soil types as well as different climate zones. Give it some water during the growing season to improve fruit size. Honey Jar Jujubes need fast-draining soil, so build a raised planting bed at 12 to 18 inches high and 3 feet square if you need to improve your drainage in a location. It's also easy to grow in hot, dry areas and are drought-tolerant once established. These deciduous trees are insect and disease-free!

This tree can be grown with the foliage to the ground, or as a single or multi-stemmed tree. Keep Jujube 30 feet from water lines, as the roots will seek that water. Try one in a big container or the ground in a full sun location that is well-drained and needs regular moderate moisture throughout the fruiting season. Prune in the summer, but be careful because of the thorns. The Honey Jar Jujube can be held to any size with pruning. Unless being grown as a shade tree keep the plants under 10 feet for ease of harvest.

  • Full Sun Trees
  • Well-Drained Soil
  • Moderate Moisture Needs - Drought Tolerant Once Established
  • Prune Early Spring - Can Be Kept At Any Height/Size
  • Low Chill Fruit Set
  • Pest Free & Drought Tolerant

The Honey Jar Jujube Tree is truly an ancient wonder that has become a modern marvel! The versatility of this plant and the tremendous health benefits say that this fruit will be with us for many years to come. This tree will sell out quickly, please place your order with Nature Hills today!
