Small and shapely Red Velvet Dwarf Crape Myrtle (Lagerstroemia x 'G19233') are easy shrubs to live with. The saturated dark pink flower color is deep, rich and smoothly polished!
Red Velvet is one of the GreatMyrtle™ series and the earliest to flower Crape Myrtle in the market! The heavy flowering, from late June to heavy frost, is an incredible modern plant breeding achievement!
Although the shrub itself stays tightly compact, Red Velvet starts producing blooms in late spring. Held high above the mounded canopy, gorgeous frilly panicle inflorescences continue until frost.

NatureHills.com is thrilled to offer this innovative new series of Crape Myrtles!

How to Use GreatMyrtle™ Red Velvet Dwarf Crape Myrtle Shrub in the Landscape
The possibilities are nearly endless in full sun and well-drained soil! Place one in a patio container, or use a pair flanking on either side of your front doorway.
Use the GreatMyrtle™ line if you are gardening in a small space. Fall in love with their ravishing hue in a long planter bed.
It's easy to line your garden border or front walkway with lively, sultry color! Create charming low hedges with a spacing of 18 inches on center. Measure from the center of one shrub to the center of the next.
Add staggered additional rows behind the first. You'll develop an effective mass planting no one can overlook.

#ProPlantTips for Care
Full sun and well-drained soils are best to keep your Crape Myrtle happy. They need at least six hours of sunlight a day.
If you have soggy soil or heavy clay soil, consider planting your Myrtle in containers or, berm the area by adding additional soil in a mound or raised bed to improve your drainage.
For a plant this special, our expert growers recommend Nature Hills Root Booster. This is a symbiotic planting formula that gives life-long support for tiny feeder roots.
Keep new Red Velvet plants watered on a regular schedule for best results. Apply 3-4 inches of Arborist Mulch over the root zone, but pull it back away from touching the stems directly. This insulates the roots and holds moisture in the soil evenly.
Versatile GreatMyrtles™ can be grown further north than other cultivars. There, Red Velvet Dwarf Crape Myrtle behaves as a perennial, with new growth emerging from the roots each spring.
Zone 5b and 6
It is root-hardy in cold winter areas of 5b and 6. Cut all of the stems down to the ground in early spring; all new shoots come from the roots and blooms start in late spring through fall frost.
Zones 7 - 9
Prune out the oldest, thickest stems in early spring. This will reduce the size, remove dead branches and leave the younger stems for the best bloom.
