The blushing beauty, Sanguineum Striatum, Hardy Geranium (Geranium 'Sanguineum Striatum') exhibits soft pink petals with intriguing red veins. Flowering between May to September, with few breaks in between, Sanguineum Striatum is indeed a unique low-growing ornamental to include in your landscape!
Starting with the fine-cut, deeply incised foliage in a lush green, Striatum is a clump-forming perennial that forms a spreading mound that is space-saving and so versatile! The long-lasting blooms are a boon to pollinators all summer long while filling your landscape with pretty flower power!
Also known as Bloody Cranesbill or just Cranesbill, Sanguineum Geranium grow throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 8, remaining semi-evergreen in warmer climates and mild winters. Growing wide at up to 2 feet, these little darlings rarely grow over 8-10 inches tall! Plus, Rabbits and Deer don't care for the taste!
Landscape Application:
So where could you use a groundcover ornamental with a soft pink blush?
Anywhere sunny! Perfect edging to your Rose garden or Pollinator and Cottage borders, the blush pink blossoms add cheer to mixed perennial borders and Containers as filler and spillers. Use in Rock gardens, and border fronts as fine-textured accents. Or plant in mass for small area groundcover, living mulch, and garden filler!
Hardy Geraniums continue to gain popularity among gardeners who are looking for low-maintenance plants. Not only do Sanguineum Cranesbill produce lovely flowers, but they also have their native cultivar adaptability that suits gardeners in almost any climate. Let Striatum earn its keep by blocking weeds, slowing erosion on slopes, and transforming hard-to-mow hillsides into shining landscape features!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Hardy Geraniums are easy to grow, adaptable, and low-maintenance! Plant these perennials in well-drained soil in either full sun or partial shade, preferring more shade in hotter climates. Provide moderate regular moisture to new plants, but once established, Cranesbill are very drought tolerant!
It is recommended you divide large clumps in spring every 3-5 years, to maintain the best growth and health of the plants. Deadhead after the first wave of blooms and you'll enjoy a second flush. Then in autumn in cooler climates, or early spring in warm growing zones, prune back the entire plant and remove debris before new growth begins. Top with some compost and you are ready for a new growing season of beauty!
- Full Sun & Part Shae
- Well-Drained Soil
- Moderate Moisture Needs - Drought-Tolerant Once Established
- Deadhead/Shear After First Blooms Fade For Later Rebloom
- Prune Back Foliage Late Autumn or Early Spring
- Deer & Rabbit-Resistant
The beautiful, blushing blooms of Cranesbill Striatum Sanguineum Geranium will be on repeat throughout the spring and into summer. Pick up a couple from Nature Hills today!
