Who would have thought that the beauty of a plant could start at its trunk? The Fox Valley® River Birch (Betula nigra 'Little King') is known for its salmon and reddish-brown peeling bark that reveals a lighter inner bark.
The foliage emerges light green but turns darker green with toothy margins and lacy foliage waves in the breeze to create a bit of white noise and light shade until the fall when it finishes clear yellow before dropping. This is when that dramatic bark has its time to shine!
Hardy throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 9, this little Birch Tree packs a lot of color and benefits into a small package! Growing 8 - 10 feet in height, and 10 - 12 feet in width, Fox Valley® can have multiple stems or multiple branching and each tree can be a bit different, but each is gorgeous!
Landscape Application:
Fox Valley® River Birch is a great specimen plant to show off its unique trunk and colorful foliage that will draw in a crowd. Plant on a raised berm in your front yard as a lovely lawn tree that won't shade out your grass.

River Birch needs consistent moisture, and to help keep the Fox Valley® River Birch healthy, surround the base of the tree with 3-4 inches of mulch to ensure even moisture. Fox Valley® is an unusual dwarf tree and typically will not need any pruning, but if you do wish to give it a trim, do so after flowering to prevent sap leakage.

Single Stem, Multi Stem, Shrub Form, Oh My!
Before you buy, make sure you know what you’re getting! Single-stem, multi-stem, and shrub forms are different so read a bit about which we’re currently offering below.
Single Stem:
These are plants that have one stem coming from the ground. Plants can also be considered single stems when lower branches are removed to raise the height of the branching. Sometimes, you will hear a single stem referred to as Tree Form.
Multi Stem:
These are plants with 2 or more stems planted together in the ground in close proximity to form a clump. There are times when multi-stems are formed by a tree that branches at the soil line with more than one main stem.
Shrub Form:
These are bushy plants with many stems and branches close to the ground. They are referred to as shrubs or bushes and are often shorter than their tree forms.
