Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

The New Horizon Elm (Ulmus x 'New Horizon') is a fast-growing, vigorous Elm tree variety. Your New Horizon Elm is a fast-growing, stately tree with many decorative elements! However, the most prominent perk this tree provides for you is its improved resistance to common Elm Tree problems! Such as Dutch Elm disease, Leaf Miners & Verticillium Wilt!

The four-inch, elliptic leaves are double-serrated with a lively deep green color, a darker hue than many other Elms. It also has a finer-textured appearance than most Elms and is a good, clean-growing tree with a subtle grayish bark. It has an upright habit, a strong branch structure, and a dense crown.

You may not notice the tiny, green flowers that appear in spring, but you're sure to see the adorable seeds that appear soon after. Each seed is like a tiny bump surrounded by a rounded, wafer-thin membrane, a delicate, dangling ornament amid the vibrant foliage. In the fall, New Horizon will display rusty red tints amid its deep green color!

A hardy hybrid Elm resulting from a cross between a Japanese Elm (U. davidiana var. japonica) and a Siberian Elm, New Horizon is resistant to the dreaded problems that have plagued Elm Trees since the 1930s. Thriving throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 9, New Horizon handles a considerably wide range of growing conditions!

Landscape Application:

One New Horizon would make a wonderful shade tree in the backyard or a gorgeous specimen for your front yard! The fine textured leaves cast lush shade without making a huge mess because the leaves easily blow away on their own.

Or plant several along your street or driveway for a homey welcome! If you have the room, bring back the great American boulevard and plant New Horizon as a street tree, recalling the days before the Elm population was nearly wiped out by Dutch Elm disease in the early 1900s.

Finches, Chickadees, Sparrows, and Grosbeaks fill up on these seeds to fatten up for the winter. Besides being very bird-friendly, the American Elm are host plants that feed up to 171 different species of Lepidoptera caterpillars, further giving your songbirds desperate to feed hungry chicks plenty to choose from!

  • Deep Green Double-Serrated Leaves
  • Fast-Growing Deciduous Tree
  • Dutch Elm Disease, Leaf Miners & Verticillium Wilt-Resistant
  • Unique Flowers & Bird-Friendly Seeds
  • Great Dense Shade Tree, Street Tree & Lawn Specimen

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Elm Trees prefer average well-drained soils with full sun but are tolerant of partial shade (when it is young) and urban environments. New Horizon is also drought-resistant once established, and does best with an application of 3-4 inches of mulch around the entire root system to support their growth. Prune young trees to correct growth and remove winter dieback in the late winter or very early spring.
