This is one of the “best-of-the-best” Nectarine trees, with consistent high scorings in taste tests. This Zaiger Hybrid variety is fast becoming one of the most popular varieties for the home garden. Double Delight produces unusually rich-tasting yellow nectarines with snappy, bright red skin.
You’ll thrill to the springtime display of double-petaled, lush pink flowers. And the long-lasting flower power goes on and on!
As the season progresses, you’ll also really appreciate the dependable abundant fruit set on the Double Delight. It looks pretty, too, because the fruit tends to set to the outside of the canopy.
Watching the developing bright red fruit adds a tremendous amount of ornamental value. This show starts in early summer and lasts through the mid-season harvest.
Then you get to enjoy the fruit! Even picky eaters love the sweet, smooth texture of highly colored flesh. They melt in your mouth! The quality of the fruit is definitely its most outstanding feature.
Just try to resist sun-warm, super-fresh fruit picked from your own tree. There is nothing like homegrown fruit to satisfy your taste buds.
This is a self-pollinating variety, so you’ll get fruit from a single tree. However, you’ll want to use at least two trees to increase the size of your yearly crop. They are too pretty to resist, after all!
Double Delight grows beautifully in low chill Zones 9 and 10. It’s also a wonderful choice for marginal Nectarine Zones of 7 and 8.
Order this dependable, beloved variety from the expert growers at Nature Hills today. You’ll be so glad you added it to your edible landscape!
How to Use Double Delight Nectarine Tree in the Landscape
Use this as a wonderful accent tree in a sunny spot. Keep it smaller with summer pruning, or let it grow out to its full height and width. Many modern landscapers are interested in utilizing their soil and sun to the fullest capacity these days.
Try one at the corner of your house to anchor your full sun foundation planting. Yes, you may get some curious questions from the neighbors. But once you share the yearly bounty, don’t be surprised to see more popping up here and there along your street.
Plant 20 - 25 feet away from the house to easily access the harvest. The gorgeous pink, double blooms of the Double Delight Nectarine rival any other ornamental tree out there.
This is a great variety to try your hand at espalier, because of its abundant dependable set and fast growth. The fact that it sets fruit at an early age just adds to its value. Study our blog posts and YouTube videos on espalier techniques. Enjoy the spectacular flower and fruit display trellised as a backdrop to your garden!
Use as an ornamental edible tree in a mulched patio planting. Or, keep it tightly pruned as part of a postage-stamp-sized backyard orchard early and late season Nectarines and Peach trees, such as Flavortop and Fantasia.
We’re sure you’ll find many ways to use the freestone fruits in baked goods, smoothies, and fruit leather. Or, just a few slices to your water glass for a healthy kick of incredible flavor.
#ProPlantTips for Care
Nectarines need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight for best results. Try to find a place that receives morning sun to gain access to that drying power.
Ensure your soil has good drainage. If you need to improve drainage, elevate your planting. Add soil in a mound 12 to 18 inches tall by 3 feet wide. You can also create a raised bed for planting. Elevated planting allows the root systems to access plenty of oxygen.
Provide a moderate amount of water on a regular basis. Mulch over the root system to cut down on surface evaporation.
Control the height and spread of your Double Delight Nectarine with yearly summer pruning. Sculpt the interior of the tree by removing crossing branches in late winter. The goal is to keep the tree at a manageable size while increasing the sunlight and air circulation in the canopy.
Smaller, backyard orchard-style trees make spraying and picking easy without the use of a ladder. A tree held to a reasonable height is also easy to net against birds. In any case, the abundant set of the Double Delight means lots of fruit for you and your family, even when maintained to heights below 8 feet.
In areas where peach leaf curl is an issue, treat your Double Delight in the spring at bud swell stage. Treat with a Bonide Copper Fungicide, and add a Spreader Sticker to ensure the treatment will adhere to the branches. Follow directions on the bottles.
NatureHills.com is proud of our enormous category of fruiting plants. Don’t hesitate to choose the Double Delight Nectarine, order yours today!
