How to Use Double Play Doozie® Spirea in the Landscape
Tuck this beauty into your existing mixed border or build a new flower bed around it. It is a real show-off all summer long.
They easily spice up mature foundation plantings. Edge your stolid, mainstay evergreen shrubs with these hot little shrubs. Or, carve out some additional space on either side of your front door for a wonderfully bold look. Plant several of them in a long, undulating curve. You'll develop a beautiful ribbon of incredible color and carefree maintenance.
Run them the length of your patio or pool deck for a fun summer backdrop. Use them either in the ground or keep them in extra-large containers. Partner them with crisp, white blooms of mophead Hydrangea. You'll make the most out of both varieties with this high-contrast garden feature.
Create a solid hedge by planting two feet apart on center. You'll measure from the center of one to the center of the next. On a wide, open space, or commercial lot, you can easily create an astonishing flowering sight. Simply add additional rows of Double Play Doozie Spirea in a staggered, zigzagging planting pattern.
Mulch between the plants. You'll also want to keep new mass plantings weeded until the plants grow together and touch.
#ProPlantTips for Care
This field-tested Proven Winners® selection features all the disease resistance that you expect. Once established in your landscape, it shows periodic drought tolerance and deer resistance, too.
Our expert plant team recommends the following environmental requirements to get the very best performance from your investment. Double Play® Doozie® is a tough, rugged plant...but why not support them to get the most intense flower power?
Plant them in either full sun or partial shade exposure, where they get at least four hours of direct sunlight a day. Afternoon shade is fine, especially if you live with scorching hot summers. Provide well-drained soils that shed water quickly after watering or rainfall. Elevate your planting site in a raised bed or planting mound, if needed.
They'll love a few handfuls of organic compost added to their planting soil. Loosen your native soil all around your plants, and don't forget to add Nature Hills Root Booster! This time-tested formula supports the tiny feeder roots over the entire life of your plant. Help the roots absorb water and micronutrients in one easy step - you'll be so glad you did!
You'll need to give container-grown plants a moderate amount of water on a regular basis. In-ground plants also need careful watering the first year, and in times of drought.
Apply a three-inch layer of mulch over their roots to cut down on surface evaporation. Mulch needs to be pulled back from touching the stems by several inches.
In early spring, prune back the stems to your desired size. We do recommend that you periodically deadhead the spent flowers to keep the show coming all the way through fall.
You'll adore the vibrant display of brilliant carmine blooms. Order enough Double Play® Doozie Spirea® to complete your entire project now!
We will ship at the right time for planting in your area. Track your order all the way through our proven process.
