Fern Podocarpus (Podocarpus gracilior) is a beautiful, soft, almost fluffy evergreen tree that is so much more than a tree. The branches have a graceful weep to them while the narrow gray-green leaves are tightly packed, which gives the tree it's fern-like appearance.
If you let it grow naturally it makes a wonderful shade tree for the edge of your property or in big beds or borders. It is well-adapted to tough urban situations. The roots very seldom lift or cause any problems.
It can also be used for tall privacy hedges around a pool or yard. They will screen out unwanted views quickly and easily. They are a great choice for modern or post-modern architecture, playing well against bright big walls.
