Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

- Age Indicators: Container size primarily indicates plant age and maturity rather than liquid volume equivalents
Growing Conditions
- Plant size can vary based on variety and growing conditions
- Container size helps indicate plant maturity and establishment level
- Larger containers generally mean more established root systems and faster landscape establishment
Seasonal Availability

Create a picture-perfect landscape...the easy way! We're so pleased to offer some of the world's best modern perennials on our website.
The smartest choices include tough, chic Starstruck Blue Star (Amsonia 'Starstruck' PP# 32246). You'll adore the sky blue, star-shaped flowers in spring and early summer!
Butterflies and honey bees will cherish their nectar, too. It's fun to watch them visit the tender, clustered blossoms over and over again.
Native Amsonia is found growing wild across a vast expanse of the United States. This improved cultivar represents the best of state-of-the-art plant breeding.
You can use them in gorgeous massed plantings, but they perform well in small space gardens, too. Grow them in outdoor containers to boost the look of your balcony or deck.
Starstruck puts on a wonderful performance with a tidy, mounded clump of glossy green leaves all season-long. This healthy foliage makes an effective contrast to the clear blue tones of the flowers.
Lance-shaped green leaves with lighter midribs grow lushly to cover the dark olive stems. Their incredibly full habit brings a very welcome fullness to your Summer Garden.
You'll never need to stake this trim little plant. The sturdy, well-branched form won't flop, even when bedecked with blooms.
Enjoy the fireglow of its autumn-bright display. As night temperatures cool down, the foliage starts heating up into a brilliant yellow-orange.
You'll get three seasons of beauty from this reliable perennial. Best of all? They'll get better each and every year.
Order Starstruck Blue Star today. Please hurry, as these showy little plants are in big demand.
How to Use Starstruck Blue Star in the Landscape
Make the most of your perennial borders with a low-slung ribbon of bright blue flowers. Plant them two feet apart for a lush look that fills in quickly.
They'll grow well in partial shade or full sun. Starstruck is a great choice to jazz existing foundation plantings that need a little boost.
Partner them with a plethora of spring-blooming bulbs. Place them in front of modern Landscape Roses or airy Ornamental Grasses.
These hard-working, multi-seasonal charmers play well with others! Create a fantastic Pollinator Garden in front of your Victory Garden.
Build a narrow new bed and fill it with Monarda, Swamp Milkweed, Allium bulbs and Lobelia. Line it with Starstruck Blue Star. Pop in a few Blueberry or Blackberry bushes behind as a fruiting backdrop.
Adding plenty of flowers brings pollinators to your annual veggie plants and fruiting trees. You'll have eye candy, and increase the size of your harvests.
If you live in an area with high pressure from deer and rabbits, weave these pretty perennials into your planting design. They don't like the taste of this one...use it to protect your other plants from getting nibbled.
They look great in oversized seasonal containers, too. Count on them as a terrific "Filler" plant for spring bloom, summer green and electrifying fall color.
#ProPlantTips for Care
They'll perform in either full sun, or partial shade. They need at least four hours of sunshine a day.
Starstruck does great in well-drained soil that sheds water quickly after a rainfall. If your soil stays soggy, bring in extra soil to elevate your plants in a raised bed.
We recommend applying a consistent, medium amount of water to keep your plants in tip-top shape. Mulch is a great idea to keep their root systems cool, but please pull it back away from touching the stems.
Prune them down in early spring to an inch or two from the ground. Add flowering plant fertilizer or a top-dressing of compost at that time, if desired.
