Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

- Age Indicators: Container size primarily indicates plant age and maturity rather than liquid volume equivalents
Growing Conditions
- Plant size can vary based on variety and growing conditions
- Container size helps indicate plant maturity and establishment level
- Larger containers generally mean more established root systems and faster landscape establishment

Blue is one of those hard-to-pin-down garden colors. The perfect blue is different for every gardener. Do you want True-Blue? Sky-blue? Deep-blue? Bright-Blue? Lavender-blue? Navy-blue? Royal-blue? Denim-Blue?
We don't know how to help you sort all of that out, but we do know that whatever blue you lean toward, you will fall in love with the blue in the new Color Spires® series of Meadow Sage from Proven Winners®! The gorgeous Azure Snow Salvia PP30534 (Salvia x 'Azure Snow')!
Somewhere between sky blue and violet-blue with a lighter blue to white lip, the flowers on this Salvia come in masses along the upright spikes on a hardy perennial! Azure Snow's flowers wave in the wind above neatly mounded green foliage that has a nice herbal scent! The pollinators and Hummingbirds will agree
Cold-hardy and easy-to-grow throughout USDA planting zones 3 through 8, but only growing 1-2 feet in height and width! These container-ready dwarf perennials save space while those incredibly vivid blooms more than makeup for their diminutive size.
Planting and Application:
These are amazing little perennials for any sized sun garden, courtyard, or container garden! No matter how much room - large or small - you'll be able to enjoy the bright blue and white flowers! Every garden becomes a Pollinator Garden and Cutting border when you include Azure Snow!
These bloomers look divine when paired in an all-white and pale blue Moon Garden, and help cool things off when paired with yellows and hot pinks! Melding in a lovely manner with buttery creams, lavenders, and soft greens, Azure Snow happily joins other perennials and shrubs, and won't look out of place among Roses and flowering vines!
Pot up in a planter on your porch or balcony, or in a gray upscale container on your sunny front porch! The butterflies will show up anywhere these plants go! If you have the room, rely on the resilience of these tough plants for mass plantings and low-maintenance drifts! They'll stand up to the sun, heat, poor soil, and low moisture locations!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Perennial Salvia prefers a full sun location, although also does well in part shade, especially in hot growing zones. Not particular on soil type, Sage does best in rich soil, as long as it does not get soggy. Provide regular water for new plants, and plant in a moist, well-drained soil location. Salvia are xeric plants and only need supplemental moisture during extended heat and drought. Top-dress with a 3-4 inch layer of mulch in winter to protect the crown from the dangers of frost.
Salvia is a woody herbaceous perennial that looks best if the mounds of greenery are cut back in the late winter or early spring. Keep those bold blooms popping until fall with regular deadheading. These clumping perennials appreciate being divided every 3-5 years to keep them growing stress-free.
- Full Sun Lover
- Easy to Care For & Any Well-Drained Soil
- Moderate to Low Moisture Needs
- Prune Back Late Winter or Early Spring
- Deadhead To Encourage New Blooms Spring til Fall
- Easy to Grow Plants & Deer Tend to Leave Them Alone
