Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes

Growing Zones 7-10
Tall red spires, the Radio Red Autumn Sage (Salvia greggii 'Radio Red') is a fantastic hybrid selection with aromatic apple-green foliage! But the main feature is the colorfast brilliant red long, two-lipped tubular flowers on a compact-sized plant with blooms that just keep popping from spring to fall, unlike other perennial Sages, this Salvia keeps on going!
The clean tidy foliage is fragrant, and the tall spires of blooms draw Hummingbirds and pollinators with their nectar-rich blooms! This has quickly become one of our favorite, small-scale Salvias! The non-stop blooms start shooting up from the foliage around June and don't stop until fall! These form tall, open-branched, light and airy growing habits that add gorgeous greenery to your landscape.
Radio Red Autumn Sage is a heat and humidity-tolerant perennial in USDA growing zones 7 through 10 and can be used as an annual accent in colder growing zones. Growing to an 18-24 inch tall and wide mound that is easy to care for and low-maintenance!
Planting and Application:
These are fantastic annual accents and seasonal vertical hot color in containers and planters! Any sunny location gains loads of appeal so use liberally around porch and patio container gardens, balcony pots, and brighten balcony planters with these enticing blooms!
Any location becomes a pollinator garden so create rows or groupings to maximize the hummingbird, bee, and butterfly drawing powers of these floriferous, nectar-rich blooms! Planting extra also allows you to have ample blooms for vase bouquets and floral arrangements!
Radio Red Autumn Sage is elegant and tidy enough for the front of the garden or landscape for full season-long color! Add bright blooms to cottage gardens or mixed perennial gardens and borders along pathways and walkways for color all growing season.
- Upright Tubular Bright Red Blooms
- Bright Green Aromatic Leaves
- Light Airy Color & Growth
- Fast-Growing Sun-Loving Annual or Perennial
- Containers, Borders, Pollinator Gardens & Cut Flowers
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Perennial Sage plants prefer a full-sun location and do best in well-drained soil. Provide consistent moisture in the hottest climates and in more Northern zones may plant in a protected location. Not particular on soil type, Sage does best in rich soil, as long as it does not get soggy. Any well-drained soil and bright location and your Sage will reward you with bountiful bright-red blooms and juicy fragrance! Provide 3-4 inches of mulch for winter protection in areas that are prone to frost. Because these are not true winter hardy, you will need to bring Sage in during winters in zones colder than growing zone 7 or 8. Deadhead often to keep new blooms returning and prune mounds in spring just before growth begins again.
- Full Sun

- Any Well-Drained Soil Type
