Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Growing Zones 4-9
Exclusive Sweet Monarch Blend Milkweed (Asclepias Mix 'Cinderella', 'Tuberosa Orange' and 'Ice Ballet') features three incredible and wildly popular varieties of native Milkweed plants for your garden enjoyment! Featuring rounded clusters of star-shaped, lightly scented blooms that butterflies (especially Monarch butterflies) go crazy for!
Your mixture of quality dormant bareroot plants may include any combination of orange Butterfly Weed plants, white Ice Ballet Milkweed and pink Cinderella varieties of Asclepias! All sure to deliver scented, nectar-rich flower power to your native plantings, pollinator gardens, and mixed wildflower gardens! Milkweeds are the Host Plant for Monarch butterfly larvae and many other beneficial pollinators rely on the nectar from these plants too!
Sweet Monarch Blend Milkweed bloom from late spring through mid-summer! These native cultivars are hardy herbaceous perennials throughout USDA growing zones 4-9, growing between 20-60 inches tall and 12-24 inches wide at maturity. Besides their beauty, you can also enjoy the knowledge that you are helping to keep a native wildflower species thriving!
Planting and Application:
This mixture of Milkweed bareroot plants are hardy perennials! Rely on their durability in a Rock Garden. Remember, this plant likes it tough, so thin soil presents no problem for it. This is a great choice for Children's Gardens, too. They love the vivid colors almost as much as the butterflies will! In the fall, kids love to inspect the dried seed pods that have split open to reveal the brown seeds. You probably remember how fun it was to blow on their silky threads and watch them soar into the air and sail away.
Watch closely to see Monarch caterpillars inch their way along the slender, lance-shaped leaves. They'll develop into an exciting chrysalis and hang from the bottom of the leaves. They will resent being transplanted, so in the garden setting, choose their planting site carefully. Enliven a new planned bed on a tough slope with their cheerful color.
- Mix of 3 Varieties - White, Orange & Pink
- Tall Branched Stems & Fleshy Green Foliage
- Huge Pollinator Impact & Nectar Resource
- Easy to Grow Herbaceous Perennials
- Specimen, Accents, Drifts & Garden Groupings!
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Milkweed plants love a full sun location, but they can tolerate some afternoon shade. This is perfect for any yard location and is adaptable to all soil types. They like drier well-drained soil but can tolerate moist soils too. They are known for growing in average-moist soil, this is definitely an easy plant! When you first plant it, this is the most crucial time to water it consistently so it can establish itself in its new location.
During the first growing season, they just need deep, but not regular watering. Water when it needs it! They aren't in need of mulch unless planted in a very hot area. In those situations, they are a fan of gravel mulches, as they do best with these, but any mulch will help conserve moisture! This is, overall, a low-maintenance plant! You'll love the life and color it brings to your yard with minimal effort! Prune in very early spring if necessary. You can cut off any damaged stems to ensure a gorgeous bloom in a few months! Naturalized plants like this aren't in need of a food source, so fertilizer isn't needed!
