Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements

Growing Zones 4-9
Planting a Bee Balm in your garden is akin to rolling out a red carpet for honeybees! The Balmy™ Lilac Bee Balm (Monarda didyma 'Balbalmac') is a vibrant, lavender-flowering perennial with whimsical blooms growing in abundance atop Minty-Basil-scented foliage and will emit its irresistible, fragrant lure across your yard from late spring and into summer.
This lovely, exotic-looking flower is unlike any other bloom you'll see. Simple, yet unique, it's sure to draw your eye with its exclusive appeal! Balmy™ Lilac is overall quite hardy and requires very little care once established. The aromatic foliage and fragrant blooms are a bonus!
Heat and cold-hardy, Bee Balms grow throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 9, growing into upright spreading clumps. These perennials are reliable growers and pop up year after year, bigger and better each spring!
Landscape Application:
Bee Balm has always been a popular perennial for those who value dependable, yet unique plantings. Bee balm is a terrific addition to a butterfly or wildlife garden! Plant masses or drifts willy-nilly without the worry because both deer and rabbits tend to leave it alone!
Plant a few throughout your yard for a dependable performance year after year, and one or two in patio containers are a lovely contrast to more typical plantings! Cottage gardens and Perennial borders appreciate this smaller perennial that only grows 10-12 inches tall and 8-10 inches wide. Filling your garden with lilac-hued blooms and bees without sacrificing space!
Bee Balms can spread and colonize areas when happy and fill large areas fast. Mix with other Bee Balms and Sun Garden Perennials to fill out your cut flower gardens, pollinator borders, and Rock Gardens!
- Lilac Purple Fanciful Blossoms
- Aromatic Minty Dark Green Foliage
- Fast-Growing Upright Clumps
- Great Nectar Resource For Bees, Butterflies & Hummingbirds
- Good For Containers, Specimens, Borders & Edging
#ProPlantTips for Care:
It's adaptable to a variety of conditions, thriving in both sun and part shade! Doing best in any kind of well-drained soil and appreciates moderate moisture access. Provide a location with good air circulation and Balmy™ Monarda even has improved disease and powdery mildew resistance. Add a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch around the roots and deadhead the flowers after they fade to encourage an occasional rebloom. In the fall, once the leaves die back, trim the stems back to the ground and remove all the debris from the area. Divide the clumps in the spring or fall every 3-5 years to maintain their vigor.
- Sun Tolerant & Some Shade
- Needs Well-Drained Soil
- Regular Moderate to Low Moisture Needs
- Prune In Spring
- Deer & Rabbit Resistant
It's a plant that seems to have it all - Lovely flowers, fragrance, wildlife interest, and an uncommon appearance all wrapped up in an easy-to-grow plant. Try one this year and we're sure you'll agree that Balmy™ Lilac Bee Balm is one-of-a-kind! Now at NatureHills.com!
