The Bouquet de Fleurs Sour Orange Tree (Citrus x aurantium 'Bouquet de Fleurs') is a gorgeous ornamental tree. It is well known for its massive clusters of intensely fragrant blossoms. The Bouquet de Fleurs Sour Orange displays attractive dark orange fruit and shiny dark-green foliage.

The massive cloud of dreamy white flowers is a huge draw for pollinators! Giving way for the crop of bright orange sour fruit that is puckeringly tart but has a very long hang time. Harvest starts in autumn and can last until spring! You’ll have plenty of time to use up the juicy harvest.

Primarily used for its ornamental features rather than its fruit, this Sour Orange thrives in the ground throughout USDA planting zones 9 and 10. This delightful dwarf only grows 6-8 feet in height, so minimal pruning and training is needed to make it an ideal container gardening specimen or indoor houseplant for Northern Growers to enjoy as well!

Planting and Application:

Perfect as a shrub or hedge, it does just as well in containers for an attractive and fragrant accent plant. The evergreen foliage means privacy and screening year-round! Not to mention decent noise cancellation and windbreaks! Plant rows for property definition, seclusion and, of course, that divine fragrance and unique fruit!

If you live in a colder climate, simply plant them in a container. Bring your tree indoors near a sunny window, & let the intoxicating citrus scent brighten your home during those cold winter days. Use your plentiful harvest for juice, orange marmalade and preserves, for baking and desserts! You’ll have plenty to give out as gifts too!

Highly ornamental trees that grace both front and back yard gardens, shade small areas around seating areas and patios, or look lovely on your front porch in a planter to welcome you home and entice guests!

  • Dark Orange Fruit
  • Handsome Dark Green Evergreen Leaves
  • Use as Specimen or Hedge
  • Intensely Prolific Fragrant Blossoms!
  • Large, Well Established Trees

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Orange trees are easy-care and need the full sun to really flower their best! Of course, more flowers lead to more flowers and more fruit! Provide a well-drained, slightly acidic soil environment with highly organic, enriched soil.

If the temperatures in your area ever dip below that 40°F range or are prone to overnight frosts, then you need to be ready to protect your tree.

Although Citrus can grow year-round in warmer regions (zones 9 and 10), they can also thrive in colder areas (zones 4 to 7) as long as the tree is brought indoors prior to the first frost of winter.

In zone 8, you can cover your tree in the event of a cold snap or unexpected overnight freeze. Citrus will need to be planted in a sheltered spot to avoid the worst of the chill, and not planted in a low area that collects cold air. If a spot like that is unavailable, or you are in a chill-prone climate, then you are safer planting Citrus Trees in a large, deep container with wheels to easily move them to a protected location or indoors when needed.

In cold growing zones, begin slowly acclimating your tree indoors in the fall, or into a protected location, eventually moving your tree inside. Indoor plants need a bright indirect sun window, greenhouse, sunroom, or enclosed patio for the winter. In spring, reverse this process and begin acclimating your tree to again be back out in the full sun all summer. This reduces stress and leaf drop.
