Giant white and pink spires on a hefty strong plant, the Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Pinky Winky® Panicle Hydrangea, (Hydrangea paniculata 'DVPPinky') has astonishingly large blossoms that grow up to 14" in length! Each floret has nearly double the petals of other Hydrangeas, giving the plant a fuller-bodied look.

The thick stems easily support the large blossoms. The flower heads emerge a lovely ivory white and continue to grow throughout the season and as the older flowers turn dark pink the new flowers continue to emerge white. The effect is absolutely stunning! Backed by the iconic, quilted Hydrangea dark green foliage, these are gorgeous plants even when not in bloom!

You'll enjoy a low-maintenance shrub and blooms for your dining table vases and bouquets, and your pollinators will adore the nectar resource! Hide an unsightly view or surround your backyard nooks in finery, plus those nosy neighbors won't mind this gorgeous flowering privacy fence either!

Planting and Application:

These ornamental flowering bushes are the most eye-catching bloomers! Elegant specimens and focal points among garden beds, their appeal is only compounded when used in long dramatic rows and en masse! Plant Pinky Winky® as anchors at the corner of your home or as a row along the sunny side of your home's foundation planting.

Used either in the back or middle of a garden bed, as a gorgeous backdrop, and is usually a taller focal point to add height and drama to the landscape! Even larger planters gain a prominent accent to use around your seating areas in the sun. This is truly a remarkable flowering ornamental for the summer and autumn landscape because of its blooms that dry and persist on the plant through fall and winter.

Pinky Winky® can be easily maintained as a smaller plant or trained into a small multi-branched tree for a real spectacle in your front yard plantings or as an entertainment area crown jewel.

  • Large Flowers Transform from White to Pink
  • Big, Pointed Spires of Nearly Double Blooms
  • Large Shrub & Strong, Sturdy Stems
  • Long-Lasting Flowers & Dried Decor
  • Train as a Small Tree-Form

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Easy to care for, this Hydrangea blooms on new wood so it can be pruned in the fall or early spring. Pinky Winky® is a deciduous Panicle Hydrangea with a moderate to fast growth habit that grows 6 - 8 feet in mature height and width. These flowering shrubs prefer full sun for the strongest growth and largest/most profuse blooms, plus the best color! However, in hotter climates, they do appreciate afternoon shade or all-day dappled shade. Pinky Winky® prefers good, loamy soil, but is adaptable to many soils, and a consistent amount of moisture is required. Check out our Garden Blog on How to Plant Hydrangeas.

  • Full Sun
  • Moderately Consistent Moist Soil & Fertility
  • Loves a Mulched Bed
  • Blooms on New Wood - Prune When Dormant
  • Adaptable to Most Soil Types

For gorgeous blooms indoors and out, plus four-season décor, you'll love the large blooms and sturdy stems of this fantastic ornamental flowering shrub! Beautiful and unique

I have one of these and I love it! It starts to bloom late summer with white flowers that turn a dark pink closer to early fall. I usually cut it down to about 3 feet at the end of the season and new growth comes from the old wood, making the base much more sturdy. One year, I cut it down too far and the new stems bent over and I had to tie them to keep them upright. This past year, I cut the outside stems a little shorter than the middle, so it appears fuller with blooms because they're staggered.

Hi Laurie,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with the Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Pinky Winky® Panicle Hydrangea! It’s wonderful to hear how wonderfully your plant blooms and how you’ve found a pruning technique that enhances its fullness and sturdiness. Your insights on cutting back to about 3 feet and the note on new growth coming from old wood are really spot on—and such helpful tips for other hydrangea lovers.

Your careful observation about cutting too far leading to flopping stems is important. Staggering the height of stems, as you did this year, sounds like a fantastic method to achieve that lovely, layered look filled with blooms—thanks for sharing that neat trick!

If you ever want to encourage even healthier growth, we recommend a balanced fertilizer in early spring and keeping the soil slightly acidic to promote vibrant bloom colors. Mulching can also help retain moisture and protect roots in colder months. And of course, your consistent yearly care obviously makes a big difference!

We always love hearing detailed feedback like yours—it’s inspiring and truly contributes to our community of plant enthusiasts thriving together.

Wishing you happy planting,

Hi Laurie,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with your Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Pinky Winky® Panicle Hydrangea! We love hearing how beautifully yours blooms and the thoughtful care you give it throughout the seasons. Your tip about cutting the outside stems slightly shorter to create a fuller, layered look with the blooms is such a clever idea—something other gardeners will surely appreciate.

It’s great that you noticed how cutting too far affected the stems and learned so much about encouraging sturdy growth from old wood. Just a quick reminder—Panicle Hydrangeas are quite forgiving when pruned properly, and your approach of maintaining the plants around 3 feet allows healthy flowering wood to develop nicely. Additionally, if you ever want to support the stems without tying, staking with flexible plant ties early on might prevent bending after pruning.

Feel free to reach out if you’d like more tips on seasonal care or optimal pruning schedules! Happy gardening with such a beautiful and unique hydrangea.

Wishing you happy planting,
