Hosta lovers and gardening newbies - don't miss this sweet selection for your shady spots. June Hosta (Hosta 'June') is an award winner, thank you very much! This is a medium-sized Hosta, which grows in tidy clumps! June features deeply variegated leaves painted with colors from blue-green to gold and lime green centers.

The vivid two-tone leaves are accented by the mid-summer blooms that appear on tall scapes. The lavender trumpet-shaped blooms attract loads of butterflies and Hummingbirds with their nectar-rich blooms. The flowers also look lovely in bouquets and floral arrangements!

Selected by the American Hosta Growers as the "Hosta of the Year 2001", this brightly colored plant can become the backbone of your partial shade garden bed! Widely adaptable throughout USDA growing zones 4 to 11, fantastically heat and humidity tolerant as well as very cold-hardy! Remarkably easy to grow, even the most novice or busiest of gardeners can find success with these low-maintenance perennial ornamentals!

Planting and Application:

Because of their dramatic coloring, select June to play the role of "Superstar" in your shade garden bed. Pair June with supporting actors from the Hosta family. Contrast it with larger-leaved selections, such as Empress Wu. Play off the dark green foliage of Regal Splendor or pick out the brightest color by partnering with the chartreuse green of August Moon.

As a rule of thumb, Hostas look much better when planted in a loose, "organic" open curve that winds its way along the front of your garden bed. In just a year or two you'll be amazed at how much brighter that area looks! Loving the shade that larger trees and shrubs create, a skirt or ring of Hosta around their bases adds a finishing touch to your plantings while hiding their bare leggy lower stems as lush facer plants.

Mix with other Hosta leaf colors, create a cool background structure, or highlight shrubs and trees with this unique coloration! Pairing wonderfully with other shade-loving plants like the finely-textured Fern or Astilbe, the cool blue hue goes great with the vivid colors of Coral Bells too! You'll call butterflies and hummingbirds to your garden and even accent larger planters and tubs around your covered porches and decks!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Hosta are hardy perennials in USDA growing zones 3 through 9 are very cold hardy perennials. Highly filtered or dappled sunlight is necessary for lush, healthy growth. The morning sun is tolerable and helps to intensify the leaf colors, but the hot afternoon sun is usually deadly to Hostas! Hostas grow best in moist, well-drained soils that are highly organic. Preferring a pH between 5.5 and 7.5. A generous 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch chips helps retain soil moisture as well as insulate the root system from heat and chill.

Easy care, there's not much work for you! Once frosts arrive, Hosta is an herbaceous perennial that dies back to the ground and emerges again in early spring. Be sure to remove dead leaf matter from the area to prevent the spread of fungal issues and deter slugs. But it has excellent slug resistance and no disease issues!
