Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Container Volume Specifications
- Trade Gallon Standard: Our containers follow industry-standard "trade gallon" specifications established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI Z60.1) for nursery stock
- Volume Variations: Actual soil volume may vary due to plant root systems and growing medium settlement
- Age Indicators: Container size primarily indicates plant age and maturity rather than liquid volume equivalents
Growing Conditions
- Plant size can vary based on variety and growing conditions
- Container size helps indicate plant maturity and establishment level
- Larger containers generally mean more established root systems and faster landscape establishment
Seasonal Availability
- Bare root plants are available seasonally when dormant
- Container plants are available throughout the growing season

Break out the party dresses because it's time for a garden soirée! Introducing the exciting Party Favor Hardy Hibiscus (Hibiscus moscheutos 'Party Favor')! A relative of Tropical Hibiscus and native Rose Mallows that forms enormous satellites of radiant pink petals!
Starting with a large clumping habit that easily makes this plant a "stand-alone" in the landscape as a spectacular foliage perennial, but then becoming something worthy of hosting a celebration!
Party Favor starts the summer off with large rose-pink buds that open to glossy, medium-pink flowers with exaggerated, overlapping petals and dramatic red-eyed centers. Like bullseyes for pollinators and Hummingbirds, the garden party guests will invite themselves until fall! This Hardy Hibiscus is a super long-blooming plant that produces large dinner plate-sized 8-10 inch wide pink blossoms until frost.
Party Favor has highly dissected, green leaves on nicely branched red stems. Growing 5 feet tall and almost as wide, this dense easy-care seasonal bushy perennial shows off all growing season long. Dying back to the ground each winter, these Hardy Hibiscus return anew each spring, bigger and better each year!
Planting and Application:
With the largest flowers of any perennial, Party Favor wows your garden guests with their big bold blooms. While only lasting a day each, you'll see new buds popping up to replace them - giving you a fresh swarm of blooms each day! Plant in your Pollinator gardens and mixed Perennial borders as backdrops, or around outdoor garden rooms as low privacy and screening!
This Hibiscus is suitable as specimen thrillers for very large containers or planters, but in the coldest growing zones, the pots must be protected over winter. They'll easily add their flouncy exotic blossoms to informal Cottage gardens and poolside seating with ease! Party Favor looks great in any sun garden or setting!
Lovely seasonal garden décor, park a garden bench or breakfast bistro table nearby to enjoy a tropical staycation on the back porch, front deck, or even a balcony in the sun! Growing to a good size, you'll get shade and privacy from peeping eyes and feel like you've been whisked away to somewhere far more exotic than your own backyard!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
For best performance, plant in full sun in cooler climates or afternoon shade/part shade in hotter USDA hardiness zones 4 to 9. Moist soils are best, but this Hardy Hibiscus is very drought-tolerant once established. It grows well in any fertile, well-drained soil, with Nature Hills Root Booster, topped with a 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch, and provide regular moisture all growing season long. Do not allow it to dry to the wilting point. Be careful to not over-water until plants show signs of growth in the spring.
Perennial Hibiscus should be cut back to 4-6" from the ground in the early spring while you wait for that new growth to appear. Just be patient - Sometimes these plants are the last to show up for the party each spring. But they are fast-growing and well worth the wait!
- Loves Sun & Heat - Full Sun & Partial Shade For Strongest Stems
- Moderate/Regular Moisture All Summer
- Adaptable to Most Rich Well-Drained Soil Types
- Prune To Ground Late Winter-Early Spring
- Late to Emerge But Fast-Growing!
Get ready to celebrate with the fun-loving Party Favor Hardy Hibiscus! You will be thrilled by this unique tropical gem all growing season! Order now at Nature Hills Nursery and we'll ship the party to your front door!
