Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age

Growing Zones 4-9
The Old Gold Juniper (Juniperus x pfitzeriana 'Old Gold') is an evergreen with a unique blending of green, yellow, and gold foliage. Use this plant as an accent planting or as a low hedge in full to part sun.
Fading into the background during the summer months, you'll be delighted to realize that your Old Gold Juniper is there to brighten the landscape with its unique foliage once the weather turns cold. Sheltering birds and sculpting snow throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 9.
Not just the average evergreen, the Old Gold performs just as its name implies, with a gold-hued accent to its evergreen nature. It's sure to draw the eye, especially when the white snow adds its contrasting color to the surrounding browns and grays of the gold-toned evergreen.
Landscape Application:
The Old Gold Juniper has a low-growing, dense nature with spreading branches and elegantly drooping tips. It has a slower growth rate than some other evergreens but can live up to 30 years! So Old Gold is perfect for lasting curb appeal that is in it for the long haul!
The golden green foliage with its whimsical cascading form looks perfect as a bright foundation shrub to enhance the existing dark evergreen foundation hedge! Line your driveway or a path with these golden shrubs or add a golden crown to retaining walls!
This shrub looks lacy and natural, you'll love it in a mass planting or on a sunny hillside! Not only will you slow erosion and water runoff, but you'll enjoy a safe golden accent where a hard-to-mow slope once stood! Spreading wide at up to 5 feet when mature, Old Gold blocks weeds and fills in bare ground with gilded greenery!
Get a large half whiskey barrel or large planter and let Old Gold do its thing! Slower growth means never outgrowing their space, but adding brilliant evergreen foliage to your porches, patios, and front entry!
Try pairing Old Gold with a bright chartreuse Ninebark or colorful Spirea, the unique growth pairs beautifully with other evergreens and broadleaf evergreens creating a patchwork of mixed greenery in your mixed shrub borders!
- Golden Green Cascading Foliage
- Bright Low-Growing Form
- Wide-Spreading Form For Weed Blocking & Groundcover
- Very Easy To Grow Evergreen Shrub
- Groundcover, Erosion Control, Facer Plants & Brilliant Edging
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Juniper shrubs are excellent for busy gardeners and those new to landscaping! Not only easy to care for and low-maintenance but any sunny location with very good draining soil works for these plants! Provide regular moisture at first until established, but after that, your Juniper is very xeric and drought-tolerant! Junipers handle salt/saline conditions, some clay, and rocky soil. Deer and urban pollution are usually not a problem with these long-lived shrubs!
It's best to give Old Gold a little room to grow naturally, that way, any pruning that needs to be done can be kept to the longest branches by sniping back a foot or so in the spring. Provide a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch around the root system to hold in moisture and insulate the roots.
- Full Sun & Partial Shade
- Must Have Well-Drained Soil - Average, Clay or Rocky
- Moderate to Low Moisture Needs
- Slow Growing = Low-Maintenance
- Coastal, Pollution & Drought-Tolerant
- Pests, Diseases & Deer Seldom Bothers Juniper
With so many evergreens to choose from, why not go with a bit of dramatic coloration? The Old Gold Juniper will stand out amid your usual evergreens and its long-lived nature will provide enjoyment for many years to come! Order yours now at NatureHills.com!
