Clematis 'The President' is a very popular cultivar with rich, purple-blue flowers; a very striking color!
The large 7" flowers have a somewhat cupped shape with silvery undersides and striking dark red anthers. It reblooms in late summer to early fall.
Clematis 'The President' needs a supporting structure to grow properly and it is easy to grow with a rich, porous, alkaline soil that has plenty of room for the roots to spread.
Best performance for the Clematis 'The President' is when the tops are in full sunlight and the roots are shaded, but will thrive and bloom in shade. Apply generous mulch or a shallow-rooted ground cover near the base of the vine. Very reliable performers once established; they take a season or two.
Plant this hardy, compact and free-flowering clematis for a burst of color in early fall; especially noticed while other plants begin to lose their luster!
