Understanding Plant Options

- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age

Growing Zones 4-9
The Frosted Violet Coral Bells (Heuchera 'Frosted Violet') is a vigorous growing plant with purple foliage and darker veining, which forms a neat clump appearance. Silver hairs cover the top of the leaves, giving it a frosted look!
Its attractive crinkled, toothy-lobed leaves emerge dark green in spring, turning deep purple with unique burgundy undersides, and tinges of silver the rest of the year! The contrast with the dark stems and dark undersides is incredible! The foliage color of the Frosted Violet Coral Bells is enhanced and deepens in cool weather for a great early spring and fall show!
The tiny, pale creamy pink flowers of the Coral Bells develop above the foliage. Appearing in late spring to early summer on slender, wiry stems, these colorful cuties rise well above the foliage mound, up to 30 inches tall. Beneficial insects, pollinators, and Hummingbirds will flock to these dainty airy blooms! Steal a few for yourself and add these fairy bells to your bouquets!
Planting and Application:
Plant this dark foliage accent plant near lighter-colored perennials, and enjoy the lovely contrast that adds depth while enhancing other flowers and foliage colors! Or plant in groupings to call all the attention on their own! Let ramble as edging or spillers in large containers, while tall enough when in blooms to be a gorgeous thriller on their own!
Use this easy-to-grow plant for mass planting, as an attention-grabbing groundcover, or as a single specimen. Frosted Violet can be used in Rock gardens to Moist Shade garden borders and dappled woodland gardens for pollinators and cut flowers galore!
- Rich Purple Foliage With Frosted, Crinkled Surface

- Pollinator-Friendly & Attracts Hummingbirds Too!
- Dramatic Edging, Garden Contrast, Shaded Landscapes, & Container Focal Points!
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 4 to 9, these hardy herbaceous perennials thrive in partial shade best. That's either all-day dappled shade, and afternoon shade, handling more shade in hotter climates and drier soil, while more sun in cooler climates and moist soil. You don't want to bury the crown of the plant too deep. You can plant them "high" with an inch of the root ball showing, then pull mulch up and around the root system. A relatively low-maintenance plant, this Coral Bells should be cut back in late fall if there is powdery mildew present, but otherwise, trim or clean mounds in early spring. This is also a great time to divide your clumps every 3-5 years.
- Partial Sun/Partial Shade
- Moist to Average Soil Moisture
- Any Well-Drained Site
- Deadhead After Flowers Fade, Prune In Spring & Divide Every 3-5 Years

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I prune Coral Bells?
Coral Bells do best when pruned in the early spring. Leaving the foliage intact as an extra blanket for winter protection over the crown. In some climates, Coral Bells can be semi-evergreen, so leaving those colorful leaves up all winter adds winter interest!
Do Coral Bells prefer sun or shade?
Coral Bells need partial sun/shade or full shade in warmer climates. They do best in the morning sun to dry the leaves of dew and afternoon shade to provide relief from the hot summer sun.
Do Coral Bells spread?
Coral Bells can spread into tidy mounds about 2-3 feet in width but do not spread by rhizomes or stolons further than where they're planted.
Where do Coral Bells grow best?
Coral Bells love a shaded site in enriched soil that is well-drained. They appreciate regular moisture and a mulched root zone.
Do Coral Bells attract hummingbirds?
Coral Bells are loved by pollinators and hummingbirds! All walks of beneficial pollinators will show up to sip their nectar.
What pairs with Coral Bells?
These shade-loving perennials pair with lacy Astilbe and Ferns, other coarse foliage plants like Hosta, and the lobed foliage of Columbines! Try pairing with Barrenworts and Bergenia too!
