Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements

Growing Zones 4 - 8
Dramatic range of foliage hues and reblooming beauty, the Midnight Sun® Weigela (Weigela florida 'Verweig9') from Proven Winners® is an incredible landscape ornamental flowering shrub! Ranging from deep greens, and purple, to burgundy-reds and chartreuse new growth, the bright pink flowers almost take a backseat to the foliage!
The neat and naturally tidy rounded growth of the dense branching of these smaller deciduous shrubs grows into 12-18 inch tall and wide mounds. These tubular flowers are perfect for Hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies as they stop by for a quick sip of nectar. Once the first flush of trumpet-shaped blooms is spent in the late spring.
If you deadhead right away, you'll enjoy a later-season rebloom along with an additional show of vibrant orange and red fall colors! Midnight Sun® Weigela thrives throughout USDA growing zones 4 through 8, growing fast in the sunny landscape.
Planting and Application:
Midnight Sun® Weigela rivals Coleus with its dramatic foliage color all growing season long. The small stature and naturally tidy form make this little shrub the ideal edging and facer shrub! Vibrant groundcover in sunny areas, along walkways, and sun-drenched patios! For a fast fill, plant them 15 inches apart on center. Measure from the center of one to the center of the next.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Sunny locations are best to draw out the most blooms and best foliage color, Midnight Sun® but can tolerate light afternoon shade in warmer climates. Any well-drained soil and regular moisture work great for these deciduous shrubs. A generous layer of mulch helps retain soil moisture in the ground as well as insulates the root system from heat and chill. Weigela blooms on new wood, so deadhead after late spring bloom if needed. Older plants can be renewal pruned by removing the oldest fattest stems out to the ground if needed as the plants grow older.
- Full Sun Lover & Some Partial Shade
- Well-Drained Enriched Soil
- Moderate Moisture Needs
- Low-Maintenance & Deer Resistant
- Prune/Deadheading After Spring Bloom
The sweet and petite Midnight Sun® Weigela are colorful blooming plants that have foliage that will outshine the pink blooms! Order yours today at Nature Hills!
