Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes

Growing Zones 3-8
Bright pink eyes and flouncy light pink flower clusters, the Luminary® Opalescence Tall Garden Phlox (Phlox paniculata 'Opalescence') from Proven Winners® has big fragrant flowers that butterflies and bees, and even hummingbirds adore! You will adore these as well! Tall, elegant and colorful beacons, Garden Phlox are a classic garden and border plants!
Backed by dark-green foliage that seems to make them stand out more, an added bonus is these blooms are held aloft at a height of 2-3 feet tall! These leaves are mildew resistant and have dark backdrops to the vivid blooms all summer. These perennials are lush fillers and thrillers anywhere they're planted!
Garden Phlox might be tall, but they won't take up much space in the garden, so they're great for mixed pots and planters as thrillers and bold color! These are upright strong stems that look amazing in floral bouquets as well as in the garden, just be sure to plant a few extra so you and your pollinators can still enjoy them outdoors!
Planting and Application:
Tall Garden Phlox has a small footprint but a big impact in cottage beds and perennial borders! Dramatic pink flouncy blossoms like these are perfect in pollinator and cutting gardens, and as tall vertical elements in garden beds and containers alike!
Opalescence is a great back border plant, where its dark foliage becomes the perfect backdrop for other perennials in the garden. These are easy-care plants and require very little upkeep, so don't be afraid to plant en masse and create woodland or wildflower plantings without much worry that deer will devour them.
- Big Pink Blooms & Dark Pink Eyes
- Dark Green Foliage
- Fragrant & Reblooming
- Containers, Naturalizing, Bouquets & Pollinators
- Mildew Resistant Leaves
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Phlox are hardy down to growing zone 3 and thrive up to zone 8 heat. Doing great in full sun in cool zones but appreciating partial shade and afternoon protection in hotter climates. These herbaceous perennials appreciate good Air Circulation and well-drained soil. Be sure to give them supplemental water during their first year and apply water in a prolonged drought. Apply a three-inch layer of mulch around your plant, but make sure to pull it back from the stems.
Prune Tall Phlox right after the blossoms fade and tidy up the mounds in late autumn after frost. While no plant is truly deer resistant, they do not prefer the taste of these plants. But, if you live in Deer Country, be sure to use Deer Repellent during planting, guided by the instructions on the label.
- Full Sun & Part Shade
- Moist Well-Drained Soil
- Mulched Beds
- Prune to Ground In Late Fall
- Fairly Deer Resistant
