Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

The Hello Yellow Butterfly Plant (Asclepias tuberosa 'Hello Yellow') has all the advantages of the native wildflower, but with the added appeal of shockingly bright yellow flowers, which bloom from July through August! Bold green foliage with slender leaves are lovely backdrops to other plants in the landscape!

Butterflies love to visit this brilliant flower for nectar, and the foliage of the Asclepias varieties is the only thing Monarch butterfly caterpillars will eat. They will also attract beneficial bees and hummingbirds as well! You'll love the blooms in cut flower arrangements too, just be sure to leave a few for the butterflies!

Following the fabulous flowers, typical Milkweed seed pods develop on the Butterfly Weed, which ruptures to reveal seeds with long, silvery-white, silky hairs. This variety may self-propagate if the seed pods are not removed. But you're going to want a few of these wildflowers in your garden because they're the only food source for the Monarch Butterfly larvae!

Planting and Application:

Hello Yellow is a hardy native cultivar that looks amazing in mass plantings, mixed beds, and borders or sprinkled throughout a prairie or naturalized area mixed with its orange-flowered species. You can deadhead some, after the first flush of blooms, to encourage additional flowering. They make wonderful fresh or dried cut flowers.

These are classic pollinator garden plants and butterfly borders, host plant naturalized gardens, wildlife gardens and prairie plantings! Asclepias are the only food source for the Monarch Butterfly caterpillars and adults lay their eggs on the undersides of the leaves for their larvae to munch on all growing season. The flowers are also a critical nectar source for other butterflies and pollinators alike!

  • Bright Yellow Summer Blooms
  • Long Bloom Period
  • Food For Monarch Butterfly Adults & Larvae Host Plant
  • Critical Nectar Source
  • Beds, Borders, Naturalized Plantings & Prairie Gardens

#ProPlantTips for Care:

These plants have deep taproots and are best left undisturbed once established. The foliage is often slow to emerge in spring. It's widely adaptable to different soil types and once established, Hello Yellow requires very little care. Though it is perfectly cold-hardy in the northern regions, mulching plants in winter will help prevent frost heaving, as well as aid in moisture retention throughout the rest of the year. In spring, trim back last year's growth and await the beautiful new foliage that will appear a bit later than other perennials.

  • Full Sun
  • Low Moisture Once Established
  • Easy Care & Adaptable to Any Well-Drained Soil
  • Prune Back Early Spring
  • Deer & Rabbit Resistant Native

Hello Yellow is tolerant of both occasionally wet and is also Xeric for drought and poor/dry soils and needs plenty of sunshine to bloom heavily. You don't need to worry about deer or rabbits with this variety. Say welcome to your Hello Yellow Butterfly Weed plants by ordering today from NatureHills.com!
