Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

Dark brooding burgundy, light, airy sprays of long needle-like foliage of the Burgundy & Late Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare 'Burgundy & Late') is a delightful addition to garden beds of all types! Providing fine texture and a dark purplish-red misty filler among other plants.

Burgundy & Late is similar to Bronze Fennel, with enormous fireworks for flowers in golden yellow that show up a bit later than other varieties! These light and airy umbels explode with glowing color above the brooding hue of the leaves. These are gorgeous blossoms for floral arrangements and vital bee and butterfly pollen and nectar resources!

If you’re lucky, you’ll see the green, black, yellow and white-striped caterpillars of the Anise/Black/Giant Swallowtail Butterfly munching on your leaves. If you don’t mind, you’ll later enjoy cocoons and help these endangered species. Just in case, be sure to plant a few extra plants for yourself and your wildlife!

Planting and Application:

Gorgeous ornamentals for the garden or even containers on your porch or patio. With strong basal branching, even if you don’t use them in the kitchen, this herb has gorgeous flowers and foliage, not to mention the incredible texture and color they lend to your garden's beds and borders! Cutting gardens, pollinator and perennial borders, cottage, kitchen, herb and vegetable gardens all look better with a few of these annual herbs!

Burgundy & Late doesn’t get more than 2-3 feet in height, and doesn’t need to be taller since their sheer color makes up for anything they’re lacking! The stems, leaves and seeds are all intensely aromatic and have a sweet flavor reminiscent of licorice and anise. There are a ton of recipes and culinary uses for these from seed and flower to stem and roots, so grow your own today!

  • Edible Ornamental Herbs
  • Huge Late-Emerging Airy Yellow Flowers
  • Fragrant Fine-Textured Dark Violet-Burgundy Foliage
  • Flavorful Seeds, Flowers, Stems, Leaves & Roots
  • Host Plant & Pollinator-Friendly

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Fennel does the very best in full sun and moderately moist soil. Be sure to select a fertile, well-drained site and deadhead unless you want the seeds in the fall.

  • Full Sun
  • Moderate Fertility & Moisture
  • Annual Herb
  • Very Well-Drained Soil
