Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Grand spires and gorgeous mounds of green, the Grand Bleu® Bluebeard PP17837 (Caryopteris x clandonensis 'Inoveris') is a low-growing, deciduous shrub that is valued for its aromatic foliage and late summer flowers! Lasting until autumn, the powdery purple-blue flower spires are said to resemble clouds of lavender-blue smoke or mist. Giving rise to this plant's other common names - Blue Mist Bush, or Blue Spirea.

This woody perennial forms a uniform, rounded mound of glossy, deep green foliage that is topped by deep intense blue-purple flowers from midsummer until the first frost. This is a boon for your pollinators and migrating butterflies, by providing much-needed nectar and pollen at a time when few other plants are in flower!

Growing fast throughout USDA planting zones 5 to 9, these Bluebeard shrubs act as perennials in colder winter climates but grow as deciduous shrubs in warmer, frost-free regions. Growing much like Salvia and Russian Sage, the airy blooms arrive late in the season, reaching 2-3 feet in height and width quickly!

Planting and Application:

Bluebeards flowers are very attractive to butterflies, bees, and other beneficial insects, so it is a must-have for your Pollinator and hummingbird gardens! The flowers are gorgeous in cutting gardens for bouquets, and the airy soft color adds a lovely touch to your Cottage gardens! Mix with similar plants like Spirea, Chaste Trees, Crape Myrtle, and Butterfly Bushes! Or mix with other Bluebeard bushes like Grand Bleus® mini-version, Petit Bleu™!

Use in perennial borders as mid-sized accents, or as edging along the fronts of mixed shrub borders, Grand Bleu® is very effective in large groups, long low hedges, or massed! The drought and heat-resistant roots make these low-maintenance plants easy to grow in Rock Gardens and more Xeric settings.

Hard-to-mow slopes, embankments, and that hot stretch along the driveway or road suit these shrubs just fine! These flowering ornamentals are deer and rabbit-resistant, so there will be little worry anything will nibble on the herbal, aromatic leaves unless they are truly desperate.

Smaller properties and courtyards are not to be forgotten as Grand Bleu® works beautifully as a planter specimen! Fill a pair of urns on either side of your front steps, or line a poolside seating area in big potted Bluebeard where they will soak up the sun! Porch, patio, and balcony gardeners benefit from soothing late-season hues and easy-care Mediterranean style!

  • Mist-Like Purple Flower Spires

  • Ideal Size For Containers & Planters
  • Great Focal Points, Front & Mid-Garden Accents, Low-Hedges & Massed

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Grand Bleu® Bluebeard grows best in full sun and loose, loamy, well-drained soil. These shrubs are very tolerant of heat and drought but will not survive in wet, soggy soil. Requiring moderate, regular moisture at first, Bluebeard can be very drought-tolerant once they are established! A 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch is a great idea to retain additional moisture and insulate the roots.

Bluebeards bloom on this year's wood (new growth) and can be hard-pruned to maintain their trim shape. In cold winter zones, Bluebeards die to the ground like an herbaceous, while in mild winter areas, they retain their top growth like a shrub. Either way, pruning back to the ground in spring will give you a shock of new growth every year.

  • Full Sun & Partial Shade
  • Adaptable To A Variety Of Well-Drained Soils
  • Moderate to Low Moisture Needs
  • Prune Early Spring - Blooms On New Wood
  • Deer Resistant & Practically Pest Free
  • Tolerant OF Heat & Drought
