Growing Zones 5-9
The Chaste Trees (Vitex) are highly sought after because they are one of only a handful of winter-hardy trees that bloom with true-blue flower spikes all summer long! Unfortunately, not everyone has room for one of these beauties in their landscape.
But now, Nature Hills is very proud to carry the Proven Winners® Blue Diddley® Chaste Tree PP#26,614 (Vitex agnus-castus 'SMVACBD') for you to enjoy no matter how much room your garden has to offer! It is a dwarf Chaste tree that is 3 - 6 feet tall and wide shrub, but still has the same striking blue flowers that you've come to love in the tree form!
The handsome and aromatic green foliage has a subtle silver sheen all spring. As summer heats up, Blue Diddley® will astound you with its impressive blue spikes that bloom right up until autumn. Hardy throughout USDA planting zones 5 to 9, these shrubs can act as hardy perennials, deciduous shrubs, or semi-to-fully evergreen shrubs depending on your climate and how harsh your winter is. Luckily, Chaste Trees are root-hardy and bloom on new wood!
Landscape Application:
It is hard to find a more beautiful plant with such outstanding qualities. Wonderful whether in bloom or not, Blue Diddley® is great as a solo specimen or in mass drifts! Its care is a breeze in any quantity!
It makes a truly eye-catching hedge along a driveway or pretty living fences along your property line. As a backdrop to your garden beds and borders Blue Diddley® stands out while making everything else in the landscape shine!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Sometimes spelled Chastetree, these hardy plants need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day to flower their best and not get leggy. Plant in a well-drained soil location with moderate yet regular moisture access, however, established Chaste bushes are drought tolerant and low water usage plants. Provide a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch to protect the roots.
Chaste Trees are fast-growing, easily pruned plants and you won't need any special skills or knowledge to grow this eye-catcher in your yard! It's easy to grow, drought-tolerant and disease-resistant. Even deer steer clear, too!
In zones 5-6 Blue Diddley® will die to the ground in the winter, but it regrows quickly in the spring and flowers like a Butterfly Bush (Buddleia).
Blooming on new wood, you won't need to worry about a cold snap killing your plant back to the ground, it will regrow anew and bloom with no problem! Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth emerges for shaping and renewal prune old branching out of established plants. Snip out 3-4-year-old stems entirely and allow new, vigorously blooming stems to take their place.
- Full Sun Plants
- Well-Drained Soil Needs
- Moderate to Low Moisture
- Blooms On New Wood - Prune Late Winter/Early Spring
- Can Die Back & Regrow Completely After A Harsh Winter
A gorgeous ball of blue flower spires! You'll be amazed at the great return you will get on your investment (both time and money!) with the Proven Winners® Blue Diddley® Dwarf Chaste Tree from NatureHills.com. Order yours before we sell out!
Single Stem, Multi Stem, Shrub Form, Oh My!
Before you buy, make sure you know what you’re getting! Single stem, multi stem and shrub forms are different so read a bit about which we’re currently offering below.
Single Stem:
These are plants that have one stem coming from the ground. Plants can also be considered single stem when lower branches are removed to raise the height of the branching. Sometimes, you will hear a single stem referred to as Tree Form.
Multi Stem:
These are plants with 2 or more stems planted together in the ground in close proximity to form a clump. There are times multi stems are formed by a tree that branches at the soil line with more than one main stem.
Shrub Form:
These are bushy plants with many stems and branches close to the ground. They are referred to as shrubs or bushes and are often shorter than their tree forms.
