Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Fascinating Yoshino Weeping Cherry Tree

  • Stunning Spring Blooms
  • Architectural Weeping Form
  • Deep, Dark Bark
  • "Fairy Tale" Tree
  • Celebrated Worldwide

If you are looking for a unique accent tree with a long history and a ton of character, the Yoshino Weeping Flowering Cherry (Prunus x yedoensis pendula) should definitely be on your shortlist! It is one of the most well-known varieties in both Japan and the United States.

This tree performs beautifully as a very special accent tree. Imagine a stunning, free-form work of art growing in your yard as an incredible focal point. Now, imagine that tree absolutely smothered in precious, porcelain-pink blooms in spring.

A confection, right? No wonder we call this a "Fairy Tale" tree. This is a truly unique tree that definitely has a story to tell.

Paired with the weeping branches, this magnificent tree will soon become a cherished accent in your garden. When young, it will grow upright with a vase shape and arching branches. As it ages, this wonderfully structured tree develops great form quickly in the landscape.

These are very noteworthy trees and are absolutely pretty as a picture. If you need an inspirational muse, here it is.

This is one of the main varieties that was planted in Washington, D.C. during the Taft administration in 1912. Both the Yoshino and the Kwanzan Flowering Cherries were part of a gift of 3,000 trees from Japan.

They are now some of America's most famous Cherry trees, and are celebrated each year in the annual Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C. Have you ever been? If you've seen those pale pink and white flowers in person, you'll know this is one of the prettiest ornamental trees in the world.

The green leaves turn orange-red in autumn. Yes, the Weeping Yoshino Cherry Tree gives you another excuse to plan a second yearly party to celebrate another season of interest.

What a beauty! Please order soon, because this tree is in very high demand.

How to Use Yoshino Weeping Flowering Cherry Trees in the Landscape

Plant this as a specimen tree to accent your landscape. You'll enjoy its graceful, glowing pale pink flowers in early spring. You'll also love the contrasting dark bark set into an evocative, twisting form.

It will look absolutely beautiful near your patio, or in an Asian-style or Meditation Garden.

The character of this beautiful weeping tree has a natural, informal feel. Each tree becomes a work of art. There is nothing "uniform" about this variety. Instead, you'll be rewarded with a tree that gives you a dramatic presence in your landscape.

We admit the Yoshino Weeping Cherry - like the best modern art - isn't for everyone. But if you prefer a curved line to a straight one, a natural fit to artificial, free form to structure, then this tree is for you.

When you first get your tree from Nature Hills, sit with it. Study the downturned branch structure from all directions.

This tree benefits from a thoughtful planting. Imagine yourself as a sculptor, and carefully consider the form when you situate this magnificent tree. Turn it around to see all angles and select the view you'll want to face towards your house or patio.

If you can, give this tree enough room to be able to walk all the way around it. After all, you won't want to miss a minute of the spring show or the autumn glory.

#ProPlantTips for Care

The Weeping Yoshino flowering tree requires very well-drained soil. Study your yard to see if it puddles after a rain. If it does, you may have poor drainage. If you can, choose another location or mound soil up 12 to 18 inches above the natural soil line. Plant your tree directly in that mound of soil.

Provide mulch out three feet past the outside of the canopy to a depth of at least 3 to 4 inches. After all, it's slightly jealous of competing plant roots, so does best as a solo act.

Like many plants from mountainous Japan, Yoshino is adapted to a wide range of climates and soil types but would prefer slightly acidic soils. In areas with higher pH soil and/or water, fertilize with an acid fertilizer applied in the fall to help maintain an acceptable soil pH. Over time, mulch will help to sustain the pH around your tree.

This tree can be thoughtfully pruned for shape. Remember, the philosophy is to remove any branches you don't want to keep.

Enjoy the process with this spectacular specimen tree. And join the ranks of Weeping Yoshino fanatics worldwide. Order yours today!
