Dreamy and elegant, the White Van Vliet Dutch Iris (Iris hollandica 'White Van Vilet') is a beautiful white orchid-like bloom with a colorful splash of yellow on its lower petals! Held on strong slender stems. These lovely spring ephemerals shine in the garden!
Growing from bulbs, unlike other Iris that grow from rhizomes, Dutch Iris grow in a similar form with upright grass-like green blades and in gradually expanding clumps. These perennial bulbs fill your landscape with fresh color and a light perfume without all the work!
White Van Vliet are more cold-hardy than other Dutch Iris, growing perennially throughout USDA planting zones 3 to 8! That means all growers can enjoy these bulbs as indoor forced decorations in the winter, as perennial and annual container accents, and as fresh seasonal color outdoors!
Planting and Application:
These white Iris grow taller than others too! Reaching 20-28 inches when in bloom, the slender stems hold the butterfly-like blossoms aloft for pollinators and amaze you with their brilliant white petals floating in the middle to back border of your landscape beds.
These Dutch Iris are also tall thrillers in your seasonal planters on your porch and patio, or in your cut flower bouquets! The white hue mixes and accentuates every other spring flower for a mixture of fragrance and beauty!
White Van Vliet Dutch Iris lights up the rock garden, highlights Cottage borders and mixed perennial beds, and is a tall backdrop for other spring ephemerals in your bulb garden or pollinator garden!
- Bright White Blooms With Yellow Accents
- Vertical Strappy Grass-Like Leaves
- Lightly Fragrant & Great For Bouquets
- Pollinators & Container Garden-Friendly
- Gorgeous Specimens & Focal Points, Groupings, Mass Plantings & Rows
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Dutch Iris should be planted in the fall in a sunny, well-drained location that won't become soggy, but remains moderately moist. Top-dress with a 3-4 inch layer of arborist mulch chips to help retain moisture and protect the bulbs (unlike other Irises that grow from rhizomes and like to be partially exposed.).
Every few years divide the bulb clumps and clean out any older, non-productive bulbs to maintain vigor. Deadhead the flowers after they fade, but keep the leaves to make food for the bulb. Prune away the foliage after it yellows to the ground.
- Full Sun & Partial Shade
- Fast Growing in Fertile Well-Drained Soil
- Appreciates Mulched Beds & Regular Moisture
- Deadhead & Prune After Foliage Yellows
- Deer-Resistant
