Growing Zones 6-9
Nature Hills is thrilled to offer these secret weapons used by landscape designers. Viburnums are always a joy to grow, and Spring Lace™ Viburnum (Viburnum 'Spring Lace') is a showy workhorse! Start off your new growing season with pretty clusters of fragrant lacecap blooms. They float above the rounded form, adding a charming touch that never looks gaudy or overdone. Let them call jewel-toned butterflies and call them to your garden settings. Spring Lace™ is a responsible choice for a nectar resource that boosts your local pollinator ecology!
Excellent branch structure and rounded form make a steadfast showing in borders. Gain an attractive and effective screen with bold-textured, leathery foliage. Spring Lace™ develops into a dark green structure plant during the growing season. Repeat them in full sun and lightly shaded areas to deliver a consistent visual effect. But we're sure you'll look forward to the cooler nights of autumn!
First, Spring Lace™ thrills birds in autumn with small clusters of purplish-black fruit! Then, this is when the noteworthy foliage color deepens to wine-red for a splashy scene during your football watch parties. In many climates, the foliage remains evergreen during warm winters. This is a widely-adaptable and handsome native cultivar selection you'll be proud to grow. Thriving in heat and humidity in USDA zones 6-9, there is little you'll need to do for this shrub!
Planting and Application:
Start with lovely Spring Lace™ as a pretty hedge at the edge of your property line. Then, we truly encourage you to take the next step in your landscape design. Turn an underutilized side yard into a private getaway or meditation nook - just add cozy seating and a side table to keep your pitcher of iced tea. You'll love the look of your new space with your favorite easy-breezy flowering focal point!
Run a series of Spring Lace™ Viburnum as a dense screen for a new hot tub. Enclose the space with a semi-circular planting for a lush planting that requires very little care. Boost the appeal on large properties with shrubs covered in pure white flowers and brilliant fall color. It makes for an exceptional, low-maintenance mass planting on the sunny side of a mature windbreak. Hide a shed at the same time you create a solid backdrop for an entertainment area.
Even a single Spring Lace can make a big difference in smaller yards. Plant it where you can put both sides to good use. Plan a lawn planting that you can see from a window to enjoy it year-round.
Define your property line, or protect your patio from nosey neighbors with flowering Spring Lace™. Try a collection of Viburnums for a naturalized mixed shrub border. #ProPlantTips for Care:
Although adaptable, this Viburnum variety performs best in well-drained soils. Plant where they'll receive at least four hours of direct sunlight a day. Protect your investment with life-long support from Nature Hills Root Booster. This symbiotic formula works with the smallest feeder roots to help your plant uptake micronutrients. Pay close attention to watering while your new shrub is getting established during the first season. After that, provide a regular schedule of supplemental water as needed during dry weather.
Prune to correct crossing branches right after flowering is finished. Fertilize with a balanced formula, following label directions. These shrubs appreciate a 3-4 inch thick layer of arborist mulch chips over their root systems to stop evaporation, retain moisture and keep the roots nice and cool in the heat!

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Viburnum Bushes Fragrant?
The flowers on the Spring Lace™ Viburnum have a sweet fragrance!
When Do You Prune Flowering Viburnum Shrubs?
Viburnum shrubs bloom on old wood, so it is very important to only prune them immediately after the flowers fade. Should you wish to enjoy the fruit that forms after the flowers fade, then do not prune, instead remove one-third of the oldest, fattest stems that are no longer as vigorous. Pruning them out at the ground level. This leaves fruit for birds and winter interest and increases overall plant vigor while reducing the size of your shrub.
Do Viburnums Like Full Sun or Shade? What is the Best Location for Viburnum?
Viburnums in general need full sun for the most fruit and flowers, but also do well in partial shade and afternoon shade. Highly adaptable, they enjoy mulched, enriched, well-drained soil that is slightly acidic. They need regular moisture while young, but once established will only need supplemental moisture during extreme heat and drought.
Does Spring Lace™ Viburnum Produce Fruit?
The Spring Lace™ Viburnum will produce purple-black berries in the fall but they need another similar Viburnum planted nearby for cross-pollination.
Does Viburnum Spread? How tall does Spring Lace™ Viburnum get?
Spring Lace™ Viburnum can form suckers at the base of the plant, but these can be removed when pruning after flowering or mowed down if you do not wish it to spread. Not invasive, these plants will politely form tidy thickets over time when allowed. Spring Lace™ Viburnum can grow 5-7 feet tall and wide in optimal conditions.
Do Viburnum Shrubs Lose Their Leaves in Winter?
Spring Lace™ Viburnum is a deciduous shrub that will drop its leaves in very cold winters in the fall with a wine-red coloration. In warmer climates, Spring Lace™ can be semi-to-fully evergreen.
