Growing Zones
Cheerful Ruby Ribbons® Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum 'Ruby Ribbons') is a colorful native cultivar with bold, upright fountains of blue-greenery from spring until summer! Airy grass flowers appear in the summer and persist until fall, becoming slender tan plumes.
But the real show starts in the late summer and autumn! This ornamental Prairie Switchgrass transforms into a vivid yellow fountain with deep burgundy-red tips! Growing fast in a wide range of growing zones and climates, these are wonderfully easy-to-grow garden standards!
Ruby Ribbons® is wonderfully hardy throughout USDA growing zones 4-8 and can grow upwards of 3 feet when in bloom! Tough roots that are drought-tolerant and as hardy as their native cousins, this is a cross between Heavy Metal and Hänse Herms, the tan winter foliage adds texture and motion to the winter landscape!
Planting and Application:
Ruby Ribbons® is quite handsome when used as a showy blue-green fountain that melds beautifully throughout mixed perennial gardens and Rock Gardens or as an accent plant in the landscape. A water-wise plant it's great for Xeriscaping!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Switch Grass loves the full sun as well as does well in part-shade however, in less than 6 hours of sun a day, may lose its vertical growth habit. Taking on a more open and weeping form. This hardy native ornamental grass handles climates in USDA Zones 4 through 9.
It is tough and can tolerate many soils and growing conditions. Plant Panicum in average to moist soil that is well-draining. Plus, this Grass can thrive in clay or even sandy soil.
This is a warm-season perennial grass, so don't be alarmed when you don't see it first thing in early spring. These are a bit slow to emerge from winter, ensuring no early spring frosts will nip off the new growth. In spring, before this grows, you can prune back nearly to the ground for a clean spring look.
Very deer-resistant, these Ornamental Grasses are typically not high on their menu of preference. These Grasses also tolerate clay, sandy soil, alkaline conditions, and even coastal environments.
