The gorgeous Belle Poitevine Rugosa Rose (Rosa 'Belle Poitevine') is a hardy Rugosa Rose that was introduced in 1894. It is graced by dense, richly veined foliage! But the real show is the giant, fragrant blooms! The deep magenta-pink buds unfurl in early summer to informal soft, double pink magenta-pink blooms that continue in fragrant waves until the arrival of frost. These blooms can be up to 4 inches across!

In fall, the foliage is transformed into a beautiful autumnal display of yellow and orange, accented perfectly by large orange-red rosehips. The decorative hips attract and feed birds in fall and winter, plus add winter interest! They can even be used in teas, made into preserves, and used in floral design!

This Rose is grown on its own root so if it freezes down to the ground, the plant will come back true to its color and size! It is winter hardy to zone 3 and up to zone 7 and grows into a healthy, vigorous plant! Belle Poitevine Rugosa Roses are hardy and the foliage is resistant to mildew, rust, and black spot. These are highly adaptable and easy-going plants for a carefree landscape!

Planting and Application:

Belle Poitevine Rugosa makes a good choice for a large hedge, especially in cooler climates.

They're also ideal backdrops for your Cottage borders, perennial beds, and Rose gardens alike! A great addition to mixed-shrub borders and softening the corner of an informal planting or garage. Slow the wind, and block drifting snow while creating shelterbelts along your driveway or sidewalk with beautiful pink blooms. They also have the impenetrable thorns of the family that keep unwanted visitors out of your garden!

Create groupings that are bird-friendly motels and nesting sites, while also becoming a boon to nectar-hungry honeybees and butterflies that will seek out these blooms all growing season! A single shrub makes a great specimen and focal point for filling garden beds and Rock Gardens with ruffled bright pops of color and lush green foliage! Smaller pruned shrubs can even be kept in large outdoor planters with ease! Don't worry about salt spray from the road, Rugosa Roses are salt tolerant!
