Put out the welcome mat for Mother Nature! Sweet little Creeping Phlox White Delight, (Phlox subulata 'White Delight') produces a carpet of pure white flowers above the slender leaves of dark green foliage. This showy, ground-hugging display is a charming way to boost your curb appeal for many weeks in the early spring!

The flowers are held above the soft, needle-like foliage. Each bloom has a winsome, open face with fetching, heart-shaped petals. Trim some of the flowers to include in small cut flower arrangements called nosegays, or leave them to feed the swarms of hungry early-emerging pollinators that will flock to your gardens!

Even after the blooming is done, you'll have a dense mat of dark green to enjoy. Their narrow, saturated foliage looks very sophisticated all season. Spreading to a tidy 18-24 inches wide but only growing 4-6 inches in height! What's better, the foliage can remain semi to fully evergreen in mild winter climates!

Cold and heat-tolerant throughout USDA growing zones 3 to 9, there is little that fazes an established Creeping Phlox! Also known as Moss or Groundcover Phlox, these mat-forming darlings brighten your landscape without taking up any room - or any of your time!

Planting and Application:

These traditional edging and facer plants happily clamber around the base of trees and shrubs or tumble over your garden edging to ease the transition between lawn and garden. In a Cottage garden or perennial border, run an amiable edging of White Delight Phlox to tie the whole design together. This choice works beautifully in a monochromatic Moon Garden that glows in the evening.

Try balancing the medium texture of this plant with a couple of finer or coarser plants for an effective composition. White Delight Phlox has a cool and calming effect in the garden, so use it to tone down more intense, saturated colors.

Creeping Phlox provides nectar for beneficial pollinators while inviting them to help support annual Victory Gardens and fruiting shrubs and trees in your yard! It's a versatile, low-growing perennial that flowers in late spring which is an important time for pollinating food crops!

Keep them as spillers and fillers in perennial containers to grace small space gardens. They are both extremely cold-hardy and heat tolerant, making Creeping Phlox ideal for hot and sunny porches and patios! If you are growing a fruit tree in a pot, or have a fully functional Edible Landscape, include several of them nearby to bring honey bees!

Recommended as Fire-wise defensible landscaping and in drought-prone areas, like Rock Gardens and that hell strip along the road or sidewalk! Because White Delight Phlox tolerates salt, it makes a cherished choice in street plantings. Use them along your front walk to bring a smile to people passing by.

Their xeric nature also means these low-growing Phlox are perfect as living mulch to fill the gaps and spaces throughout landscaping beds, on hard-to-mow slopes, and en masse as erosion control on slopes. They'll grow well in rocky or sloped areas. Let them soften the edge of a slope planting in front of Sumac and Ash Leaf Spirea.

This perennial groundcover provides a classically elegant look at the lowest layers of your garden design. Allow it to gently fill out to reach the mature spread as listed in the Plant Highlights.

  • Carpets of Snowy White Flowers in Spring
  • Pristine, Heart-Shaped Petals
  • Mats of Low-Growing Weed-Blocking Foliage
  • Butterflies Love This Versatile Choice
  • Also Known as Moss Phlox
  • Excellent Flowering Groundcover, Edging, En Masse & Containers

#ProPlantTips for Care:

You'll appreciate this popular and charming little perennial! White Delight is exceptionally easy to grow in full sun with well-drained soil. Plant them where they will receive at least six hours of sun a day. Gritty, slightly alkaline soils are preferred and good drainage is essential.

For the first season, provide a moderate amount of water on a consistent schedule. After their roots are established in the soil, they'll tolerate brief drought, especially if they have a 3-4 inch thick layer of arborist mulch over their roots.

It's a good idea to shear this plant back and clean up any dead foliage in early summer, or just after it is finished blooming. This produces dense foliage and can encourage some rebloom. Every few years, divide your clumps to maintain their vigor and keep the crowns free of dead debris and clutter.

  • Full Sun Is Best
  • Very Well-Drained Sandy Soil Preferred
  • Moderate to Low Moisture Needs Once Established
  • Sheer After Flowering in Spring
  • Very Cold Hardy - Can Remain Evergreen in Mild Winters
  • Salt Tolerant & Deer Tend to Leave Them Alone

Make sure you buy enough White Delight Creeping Phlox to complete your project to ensure you have a pretty and cheerful display! You'll adore them! Order now at Nature Hills Nursery!

Does Creeping Phlox spread?

Most Garden Phlox do spread some but politely so - not getting into trouble and not jumping their borders. Should the clumps become too large you can easily divide them.

Should your deadhead Creeping Phlox?

Deadheading Carpet Phlox helps prevent some varieties from self-seeding and encourages a rebloom. Shear or prune immediately after flowering for a rebloom later on.

Where is the best place to plant Phlox?

Phlox needs full sun, and well-drained enriched soil with good air circulation for best results. Mulch their beds and fertilize them each spring.

What happens to Phlox in the winter?
