Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Also known as Garden Pinks, these hardy Carnations produce gorgeous ruffles of fragrant blooms that the butterflies can't stay away from! Odessa® Amy Dianthus (Dianthus caryophyllus 'Hilodeamy') has double layers of petals that have rosy red to reddish-pink centers and fade to pale-pink or white edges.

Accented by a picotee edge on a backdrop of gorgeous soft greenish-blue foliage, the narrow, grassy foliage can remain evergreen. Forming dense clumps that spread and create fantastic edging, these cascade and spill over rocks, container sides and retaining walls beautifully!

Fragrant with a spicy scent, the stems are just as lovely in a bouquet or nosegay as their larger Carnation cousins! Versatile throughout the garden landscape, you’ll adore this frilly variety of Dianthus!

With a late spring until early summer bloom time, these flowers smother the foliage in two-tone color! Attracting hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies, these perennials are long-lasting additions to any landscape!

How to Use Odessa® Amy Dianthus In The Landscape

Garden Pinks have a long history of use throughout the garden for ages! Traditionally used as edging, tucked into rock walls or in long rows, these mat-forming clumps remain lovely year-round!

Use as spillers over the edges of containers and planters or even draped over the edges of a hanging basket too! Plant along the driveway or let ramble over the sides of walkways and paths, creating a finishing touch and lovely definition. These mounded perennials soften the transition between lawn and garden as well!

Let ramble through a Rock garden or throughout a Cottage garden where their greenery and ruffled blooms accent nearly any other type and color plant! A fantastic gift plant, make special occasions really special with a beautiful Garden Pink!

Soften the tops of retaining walls and the bases of hardscaping with evergreen color, or use as a groundcover that won’t compete with Roses, Mixed Shrub borders and around the bases of trees!

Loving the full sun, Perennial and Cutting gardens gain ruffled and frilly finery that grows low, only 6 to 8 inches high! Not overcrowding other plants, these are fantastic low-growing facer perennials that hide bare stems and carpet the ground in lovely blue-green mounds.

Tuck some of these stems into small bouquets and floral arrangements where you can enjoy their spicy fragrance indoors as well as out! Pollinator gardens too will be smothered in fluttering visitors with a few Dianthus blooming all through the spring, summer and well into autumn!

#ProPlantTips For Care

Dianthus are full sun perennials that can remain evergreen year-round in mild winters. Hardy in the United States growing zones 4 through 9, these shine when planted in at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day.

Provide well-drained soil that is fertile and humusy, with high organic content. Add compost or fertilize throughout the growing season for best results. Not particular on soil type, any soil that is well-drained is fine since Dianthus cannot tolerate wet, soggy soil.

Preferring alkaline soil and a generous layer of mulch helps retain soil moisture as well as insulate the root system from heat and chill.

Garden Pinks have a long history in the garden, and you can see why! Versatile, hardy and so easy care, these are low maintenance and adaptable beauties! Prune in early spring, before you see new growth.

Dianthus adds so much fragrance and elegance to your garden this year, so order enough to fill your space with the ruffled double blooms of Odessa® Amy Dianthus! Order them today before they’re gone at NatureHills.com!
