Growing Zones
Big bi-color mysterious dinnerplates, the Mystery Day Dahlia (Dahlia 'Mystery Day') will amaze with deep burgundy, concentrically arranged petals tipped in pure white for a dazzling display all summer long! The 7-9 inch flowers stun all on their own, but when you realize they soar 3-4 feet tall, you and your pollinators will be mesmerized!
Featuring multiple buds each patiently waiting their turn, Mystery Day blooms all summer and reblooms until frost in the fall! Simply snip the blooms often or deadhead as they fade to keep more of these massive flowers returning!
Standing tall on sturdy stems and backed by a mound of glossy lush green leaves, these perennial bulb plants can spread into clumps 2-3 feet wide! An annual accent and seasonal thriller throughout all USDA planting zones, the perennial bulbs - technically known as tubers - will need to be dug up in the fall and kept safe for the winter as you would Canna Lilies.
Landscape Application:
Add these conversation pieces to your front and back garden beds where their height will call attention from everyone near and far! Perfect in large porch pots and patio planters in the sun, even balcony gardeners can enjoy the Mystery Day Dahlia!
The perfectly arranged petals are worthy of study up close and personal and your pollinators and hummingbirds will be stopping by to visit all summer long! That's if you haven't snipped armloads of blooms for yourself to whisk indoors for your bouquets!
Dahlia has multiple stems on each plant and keeps pumping out the blooms until frost! The more you cut for bouquets or deadhead the flowers as they fade, the more they will produce! No Pollinator garden, Perennial bed, cut flower border, or proper English Cottage garden should be without these magnificent, extended-bloom plants!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Plant Dahlia tubers in full sun for the best growth and the most blooms! The morning sun is best due to its drying power to clear the leaves of dew. Delicate Dahlia foliage also appreciates afternoon shade in hot climates and everywhere they love good air circulation! The key to successfully growing Dahlias is well-enriched soil with regular fertilizer. It is recommended that you add 3-4 inches of arborist bark mulch for consistent soil moisture and protect the roots.
Even though they are often referred to as 'bulbs' the roots of the Dahlia are tubers like potatoes and sprout from the 'eyes'. Plant Dahlia tubers between 10-12 inches deep in loosened, enriched soil. These modified roots need to be planted in very well-drained soil that won't become soggy. Tubers planted directly in the ground will start to sprout in about 3 weeks depending on your climate and weather.
Deadhead regularly for continuous rebloom and trim back yellowed foliage in the fall. Dig up the tubers for the winter. Store these bulbs in a cool, dark place for the winter.
Forming from bulb-like tubers, these perennials need protection from freezing temperatures. While Dahlia can be planted in all growing zones, climates with freezing winters need to "lift" them in the fall before the ground freezes solid.
