Bright butterfly and bee-friendly blooms, the Moonshine Yarrow (Achillea 'Moonshine') is a bright, canary-yellow blooming perennial with silver and gray-green foliage! The aromatic leaves have a ferny fine texture and the sturdy stems hold these flat-topped umbles aloft like pollinator landing pads! They just shine in the sun!
This upright-growing flower blooms during the summer months, from June to September. In mild winter zones, it can retain evergreen foliage! This fast-growing plant features bold yellow flowers that attract butterflies into your garden like beacons. Butterflies love everything about this pretty herbaceous perennial. It's a wonderful nectar source!
Delightfully hardy and adaptable throughout USDA growing zones 3 through 8, Yarrow are hardy wildflowers that survive almost anywhere, and this selection of the native bloom keeps those easy-going qualities for your landscape!
Planting and Application:
Moonshine Yarrow is a fantastic addition to your landscape border! Liven up any sunny perennial garden with this perky yellow flower in rows or groupings to maximize its vibrant hue and ferny foliage. Or mix with ornamental grasses, other pollinator garden plants, or xeric perennials for a bold wild-flower look!
Plant your Moonshine Yarrow in sunny pots strategically placed around your yard for a neat, contained appearance! Even container gardeners on patios, balconies, and in courtyards can enjoy these neat and tidy plants! This sunny flower also looks stunning when cut fresh or mixed with dried flowers, giving you plenty of decorative options for floral arrangements inside your home too.
Moonshine Yarrow (and most Yarrows) won't burn in the event of a fire, making it a definite must-have for defensible space planting in any firewise landscape. That means that no matter how dry your region is during the hot summer months, you can rest assured knowing that this bright little flower will protect you and your property in the off-chance of a wildfire spreading your way. Their tolerance for the tougher locations around the landscape makes them commercial landscapers' favorites and ideal for the hell strip along the road and in Rock Gardens! Or, look for a dry spot in your garden, where it will be happy to nestle in and dazzle you!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Yarrow should be planted in full sun and is tolerant to hot humid summers. It can easily tolerate poor soil conditions, although it thrives in well-drained, lean, dry to medium-wet soil. To use in heavy clays and wet, rich, fertile soils, plant them in a raised bed. This hearty flower only needs occasional watering once it's established, making it a great choice for drought-tolerant and xeriscape landscapes. Considering how many butterflies Yarrow attracts, it's refreshing that these little perennials are deer and rabbit resistant! An easy-to-grow, carefree, heat-loving bloomer that will rebloom if you cut or deadhead the first round of blooms.
- Full Sun
- Moderate to Low Moisture Needs Once Established
- Widely Adaptable to Any Well-Drained Soil Type
- Deer & Rabbit Resistant
- Drought Tolerant & Firewise
You simply can't go wrong with this plant! Order bright blooms and hardy versatility with the Moonshine Yarrow from Nature Hills Nursery today!
Fire-Resistant Moonshine Achillea
Moonshine Achillea is a member of the Yarrow family and may be one of the most popular plants used in landscaping today. Introduced in the 1950's by world renown plantsmen Alan Bloom, Moonshine Achillea is one of the many plants the Bloom Brothers, Alan and Adrian, introduced for the incredible Bressingham Gardens in Bressingham, UK.
Thought to be a hybrid of Achillea Clypeolata and another uncertain variety of Achillea, the Moonshine Achillea is a beautiful perennial plant in the garden and also very functional. Yarrows are important plants that attract beneficial insects into the garden, thereby reducing the need for pesticides. The Moonshine Achillea, with its bold yellow and flat flowers, is particularly good for this function.
The Moonshine Achillea is considered a low water user and is recognized by the California Department of Water Resources Water Use Classification of Landscape Species (WUCOLS) list. Meaning that once established, Moonshine Achillea requires only occasional water. This plant is recommended for all drought tolerant and xeriscape landscapes.
Moonshine Achillea is on most all lists of fire-resistant plants, as are most of the Yarrows. This plant is recommended for all defensible space plantings in Firesafe Landscapes.
