If you are a Lilac lover, then you have already heard of Beauty of Moscow (Syringa vulgaris 'Krasavitsa Moskvy'). If you are new to the world of Lilacs, then this is a great place to start. You won't find a commercially available Lilac with bigger flowers or a more powerful perfume! It is difficult to understand how beautiful the Beauty of Moscow flower heads are until you see them in person. The buds are a soft combo of pink and purple that open to nearly white.

They open at different times along the stem and the mix of purple, pink and white against the heart-shaped green leaves is really stunning. The large panicles droop and hang heavy all over the shrub that fills out densely with heart-shaped foliage. The gorgeous green leaves look fantastic as backdrops to the blooms as they are other plants in the garden for the rest of the growing season!

Pollinators and hummingbirds flock to the blooms and songbirds nest in the dense branching! It is a rugged upright plant that is excellent for cut flower bouquets so you can enjoy their captivating scent in your home. A single flower stem will perfume your whole house. Very cold-hardy throughout USDA growing zones 3-7, deer resistant, and easy to care for!

Planting and Application:

Lilacs are fragrant privacy screens with big benefits for you and your wildlife! Create privacy hedges by planting a series of staggered rows to fill a wide, open area with magnificent spring blooms while blocking noise, prying eyes and slowing wind. Create a mixed Lilac border for varied blooms and extended bloom time enjoyment all spring!

Add a single specimen or group of Beauty of Moscow in threes for a gorgeous cottage garden, in rows behind a perennial garden, or as must-have inclusions to the cutting garden! Don't miss out on the dazzling beauty and alluring scent of the outstanding garden accents. Don't go another spring without a prolific source of fabulous Lilac blooms.

This lovely spring accent would make a wonderful tree form specimen for your yard with some pruning and training. Add privacy and fragrance to a reading or coffee nook for a peaceful area that whisks away the hectic world. Heighten the anticipation of a fun evening with a gracious welcome at the entrance to your entertainment area or a pair straddling the entrance to your backyard gate.

#ProPlantTips for Care:

The Beauty of Moscow Lilac blooms best in full sun and is easily grown in average, medium moist, well-drained soil. It will grow up to 12 feet in height with an 8-foot spread. Provide moderate moisture consistently all growing season, but these are adaptable to low moisture conditions once fully established. Apply supplemental water during times of extended drought. Mulch helps your plants stay cool and moist.

The Beauty of Moscow Lilac is very hardy and weather resistant, disease and deer-resistant so you'll be saved the time and trouble of dealing with costly measures to keep it safe from harm. If you live with deer in your area, apply repellent spray on planting day. Deer are hungry and curious, and you want to train them to leave your plants alone.

Air circulation is essential for Lilacs, so find a breezy place for them to perform at their best. It's best to avoid low spots or heavily enclosed locations that trap airflow. Fertilize in early spring and again in mid-summer with Dr. Earth Organic and All Purpose Fertilizer, following directions on the package.

Don't miss a single bloom! Follow these easy Pruning steps for the best flowering:

Right after the flowers are done, it's time to prune. Don't delay, as Lilacs will produce next year's flowers on the new growth from this year. Snip the past flowers, then remove inward-heading branches and the thickest stems out at ground level, allowing the shrub's interior to have plenty of sunlight and air circulation.

Once your Lilac plants have been growing for about 10 years, you'll want to start a regular schedule of renewal pruning and removal of suckers (when needed). After the blooms are fading, cut a few of the oldest, thickest branches right down to the ground each year. The younger, thinner branches remain and keep your plant vigorous and healthy.

  • Full Sun
  • Moderate Consistent Moisture
  • Loves Mulched Beds & Well-Drained Enriched Soil
  • Prune Immediately After Flowering Only
  • Low Maintenance, Cold Hardy & Versatile

A relatively new introduction to the Lilac world, these tend to sell out quickly. Don't wait too long to order this, or you might find yourself having to wait until next year to enjoy this beautiful, world-renowned shrub. Order your own Beauty of Moscow Lilac from Nature Hills today before they're gone!
