Germander is an evergreen plant that is both an edible herb and a decorative shrub! The small, waxy leaves grow all along the length of the upright stems.
Choose how you'll keep it in your landscape. Like Boxwood, it can be kept fluffy with a loose and natural look.
If you want to supply plenty of nectar for beneficial pollinators...put the trimmers down. Allow the rose-purple Germander flower spikes to grace your plants for several weeks in the middle of the growing season.
Germander is basically "Catnip" for butterflies! Anyone who is growing a Victory Garden needs to consider this classic choice to bring beneficial pollinators.
Deadhead the blooms off after they fade. Do it the easy way by simply grabbing the top of your plant, and trimming to take a bit "off the top".
You can also choose to keep it tightly pruned up like you would Boxwood with several shearings per season. This plant can become a trim and tidy hedge with a wonderfully organic look and incredible scented foliage without blooms.

Plan a design that takes advantage of the dwarf, shrubby form to create an effective outline. Partner with your favorite Lavender, English Thyme, Yarrow, Hyssop, Dill and Bee Balm; then place an outdoor dining table nearby.
Germander's leaves give off a nice herbaceous scent when crushed. In the fall, the leaves develop a lovely reddish tint and persist through most of the winter.
This plant is a member of the Mint family and can also be used to control erosion and for bank stabilization. It makes a rewardingly lush mass planting when planted eight inches on center.
