A historic plant with a wide range of amazing applications! The Faulkner Boxwood is a dwarf evergreen that has been used as an ornamental shrub since 4,000 BC.

Faulkner Boxwood (Buxus microphylla 'Faulkner') sports glossy bright-green foliage and is densely, and compactly packed, creating a world of versatility in use for your gardens! The bold green is year-round and cleanly defines your garden beds with verdant greenery!

These gorgeous leaves are small and oval, and take pruning readily! Tiny white blooms appear in spring and while you may not notice them, your local pollinators will. Tiny berries appear later that birds will find readily. After a frost, they take on a rich bronzy hue.

These dwarf shrubs are easy-care and provide year-round interest. Slow growing just means less pruning for you and an easier-to-maintain shape that you ultimately choose for your Faulkner.

No wonder the Royal Horticultural Society gave Faulkner the Award of Garden Merit!

How to Use Faulkner Boxwood In The Landscape

An exceptional evergreen shrub and specimen plant for containers and hedges, Faulkner provides year-round color in both formal and informal settings.

For formal settings, Boxwood can be easily shaped into a tidy hedge or topiary form. Uniform and neat hedges are at the perfect height for clean privacy and screening.

Prune to rounded or square shapes, balls or cones easily with little need for maintenance. Looking perfect in terracotta pots in front of your front door to welcome guests or in cement planters to provide privacy around your patio.

Used for centuries as foundation and anchoring plants, Faulkner also neatly hides utility meters and air conditioner units.

When left unpruned, these are wonderful backdrops for your garden beds and borders, accent plants to add evergreenery among mixed-shrub plantings and presence all year to the cottage garden.

Asian and Zen-inspired gardens, as well as Mediterranian and Urban designs all, welcome a few Boxwood!

Deer and rabbit-resistant, there is little worry your hedges or mass plantings will get nibbled on.

#ProPlantTips For Care

Faulkner loves the full sun in cooler growing zones and partial sun when planted in warmer climates, especially some afternoon shade as a reprieve from the summer sun.

Requiring moderately moist, well-drained soil, Boxwood are not particular on the soil type, as long as they do not sit in water. Not minding slightly acidic or alkaline soil.

Boxwood are drought tolerant once established, its best performance is when watered adequately, especially during summer. To aid moisture in the heat, a generous layer of mulch helps retain soil moisture as well as insulate the root system from heat and chill.

If concerned about drainage or puddles remaining on your soil after rain or watering, consider elevating the planting area. Add 18 - 24 inches of soil above the native soil line and plant your tree directly in that mound.

Protect your Boxwood's dark-green leaves from the drying, cold northern winds if you are in such an area, as these can get some windburn. Pruning and shearing are best done after the last frost date in spring.

Your garden will get that old-world touch with the fantastic evergreen of Faulkner Boxwood! Kick up your curb appeal up a few notches and order yours from the expert growers at Nature Hills today!
