Where to Plant

Sunlight: For the most vibrant pink blooms and best disease resistance, provide at least six to eight hours of direct sunlight daily. While it can tolerate light afternoon shade, less sun often results in fewer flowers and a more open, leggy growth habit.
Soil: These roses crave rich, loamy soil that drains well but holds onto moisture like a wrung out sponge. If you are dealing with heavy clay, mix in some organic compost and plant in a slight mound to keep the roots from sitting in stagnant water.

Watering Requirements

During the first growing season, water your Mystic Fairy® deeply twice a week to help the roots dive deep into the soil. Once established, this rose is remarkably resilient, but providing one inch of water per week maintains the lush foliage and constant reblooming. Inconsistent watering or allowing the soil to bone dry will cause the plant to drop its lower leaves and stunt the development of new flower buds.

Pruning Tips

This shrub rose blooms on new wood, so the best time for a haircut is in late winter or very early spring before new growth starts. Cut the entire shrub back by about one third and remove any thin, twiggy stems to encourage strong new canes that can support heavy clusters of flowers. At Nature Hills, our plants are sold in industry-standard nursery containers. You will notice we use the word "container" rather than "gallon." Container numbers follow a nursery trade size standard, not liquid volume. The number tells you the plant's size category and general maturity level. A larger container means a more established plant with a stronger root system.

Why "Container" and Not "Gallon"?

Nursery container sizes follow an industry trade standard established for the nursery and horticulture industry. The number is a size designation, not a measurement of liquid volume. Actual soil volume varies by plant type, root mass, and growing medium. Using "container" is the accurate industry term. When you see #1, #2, or #3, think of it as the plant's size tier, not a gallon measurement.

Root Pouch Containers

Some Nature Hills plants arrive in a Root Pouch, a breathable fabric container made from 100% recycled materials. Root Pouches encourage denser root development through air pruning, which discourages root circling and promotes a stronger, more fibrous root ball at the time of planting.

There are two types. Knowing which one you have changes how you plant:

Degradable (brown or tan fabric): Plant the entire pouch directly in the ground. The fabric breaks down naturally in the soil over time.
Non-degradable (black or gray fabric): Remove the pouch before planting. Cut the bottom open with scissors, then peel the sides away. The fibrous root ball will hold its shape.

Easy Elegance® Roses are grown on their own roots and offer extremely high performance, even in tough conditions. Plant Mystic Fairy® in a planting site that has good air circulation and in full sun, where they receive at least six hours of sun a day. The morning sun is great because it quickly dries off the foliage. Plant in well-drained soil that sheds water quickly after rain. Improve drainage to keep their roots healthy with a raised bed.

Apply a consistent amount of water on a regular basis. Use mulch to help keep the roots moist, and avoid splashing water onto the foliage, but please pull it back from directly touching the stems. Feed your Roses a good slow-release fertilizer according to the directions. Reapply this flowering plant food until July.

In early spring as the plants begin to wake up, put on your thick gloves and sharpen your garden shears. Prune all stems down to six inches from the ground and watch for the glorious new foliage to appear.
