Nature Hills is a resource for garden designers across the country for large orders of commercial-grade landscape material. Our expert growers are some of the premier nurserymen in the business.
We have created a magnificent showpiece accent for your landscape, our Dwarf Alberta Spruce Spiral Topiary. With short green needles held in densely packed bundles, this is one of the world's finest trees for specialty pruned topiary.
Our experts have worked to painstakingly hand-craft this classic, elegant spiral from a slow-growing Dwarf Alberta Spruce tree. Using specialized pruning techniques, now this tree is a true work of art.
Use one, two or more as a high visibility accent in your landscape. You’ll love the eye-catching look of this durable evergreen with year round green color.
Dwarf Alberta Spruce is a wonderfully dense, slow growing tree that is the perfect pyramidal accent plant. It’s used as a specimen without doing much to it at all, and we sell the untrimmed variety, too.
But this one is really special. Topiary artists at the nursery have strategically pruned these plants. They’ve been carefully transformed into a fantastic spiral evergreen over the course of many years.
Once you receive it, the work has been done for you. From now on, it will be quite easy to maintain.
There is no comparing sophisticated live plant materials with any faux plastic or fake replications. These hand-crafted trees bring a wonderful appeal to your landscape. These are the “real deal” and instantly elevate the tone of your house or business.
Custom pruned Dwarf Alberta Spruce Spiral Topiary should be used where you can see and appreciate it. Buy two to flank either side of a doorway, or one to use as a very special accent in your landscape.

How to Use Dwarf Alberta Spruce Spiral Topiary in the Landscape
Have you ever seen photos of the Queen of England’s guards? They are strongly upright, highly decorated and placed where they’ll have the most impact.
Well, these Topiaries will bring the same kind of formal ornament to your landscape. Thinking of them as living sculptures—or little formal sentinels—will help you unlock the design potentials for these amazing, one-of-a-kind, small evergreen trees.
There is nothing more eye-catching and attractive than a pair of them placed on either side of the entryway. They can be planted in the ground on either side of your front door, or they can be grown in containers.
Use the prettiest pots you can find. They’ll work equally as well in high-gloss glazed pots or square matte resin pots. They’ll be beautiful, no matter how you choose to style them.
It can be fun to juxtapose the formality of the classic spiral shape with a modern, informal or whimsical container. Try them in welded industrial chic rectangular columns for a fresh, modern take on a classic.
Custom, spiral pruned Dwarf Alberta Spruce also make incredible specimen plants for your patio. They can be planted directly in the garden bed or used in containers on the hardscaped surface.
In the backyard, use several to help lead the eye along a path, or use one to mark a transition point. Use two on either side of an entrance of a special Garden Room, they’ll work just as well here as they did by the front door.
For a unique focal point, use 3, 5, 7 or 9 of them along the length of a planting bed. Underplant with Groundcover Roses, Ivy or another low-maintenance groundcover. Or, stay symmetrical with two or three curved on either side of a large fountain or birdbath.
It’s a good idea to include a Dwarf Alberta Spruce Spiral Topiary to add a bit of structure and winter interest to a higgledy-piggledy Cottage Garden. Use a few for contrast and punctuation in a Butterfly Garden or perennial border.
#ProPlantTips for Care
In general, Dwarf Alberta Spruce trees are hardy and can grow in full sun or part shade. They love evenly moist soil, but never wet.
In colder climates, give the plants protection from dry and windy conditions during the winter months to prevent winter burn on the needles. Give the plants a long drink in late fall to ensure they have adequate moisture going into winter.
They will perform best with at least 6 hours of direct sun but take care around windows. Highly reflective light behind the plants can burn the foliage in winter.
Overall, once they are properly sited in your landscape, these Topiaries are actually very easy care. There is minimal pruning required.
If any pruning is needed, prune just before they start to grow in spring. Use sharp garden shears and simply follow the established lines to clean up any new growth.
For container plants, use a slightly acidic soil mix. Keep containerized plants watered regularly. They will not tolerate “wet feet” or poorly drained soil. Raise containers up with 3 bricks placed in a triangle. You want to ensure good drainage, so position the drain hole over the center of the triangle.
Enjoy these high profile, easy care plants! You’ll join a large community of gardeners who have loved Topiary sculptures down through the generations. Order today!
