Gorgeous creamy pink double helpings of petals, the Debutante Camellia (Camellia japonica 'Debutante') is just what your landscape needs when your winters seem a bit bleak! These are broad-leaved evergreen shrubs with attractive glossy, deep green foliage and a dense, bushy form that fills large areas in beauty all year long!
One of the earliest Camellias to bloom, each voluptuous flower attracts bees and other curious beneficial pollinators seeking out a nectar-rich meal. The Peony or Rose-like blooms are long-lasting and brighten the dappled shade and understory garden! The elegant flowers are perfectly symmetrical and concentric as if each bloom has its petals arranged by a perfectionist!
Debutante double Camellia bushes are heat and humidity tolerant throughout USDA growing zones 7 to 9 and can reach a lovely 6-10 foot tall size, with a slightly smaller spread. You can train these broad-leaved evergreens into any size or shape needed, even creating a unique multi-trunked tree form by 'limbing up' the lower branches.
Planting and Application:
Debutante is a fantastic flowering ornamental with year-round foliage and is easily trained and shaped to suit your landscape's needs! Create a tree-form specimen or leave it bushy for privacy, or go over the top and create an Espalier living wall or privacy fence!
Camellia brightens the shady mixed shrub border and shows off in groupings. Or you can create a curb appeal boosting focal point planting by situating a solitary shrub in a key location around the landscape. Try anchoring your home's foundation border, or softening a hardscape corner or rock wall. Plant in rows and groupings for lush privacy that keeps its foliage all year round!
- Creamy Light Pink Double Blooms

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Camellia flowering ornamental shrubs do best in partial shade - either morning sun and afternoon shade, or all-day dappled shade. Plant in organically enriched, well-drained soil that has consistent, moderate moisture availability. Appreciating slightly acidic soil and a 3-4 inch layer of pine bark mulch over their root systems, Camellia should only be pruned right after they flower, or you will not see blooms next winter! Deer tend to avoid these plants unless desperate. For best results, protect from excessively sunny or windy/exposed sites.
- Part Sun/Partial Shade
- Regular Moisture Needs & Appreciates Mulch
- Any Slightly Acidic Well-Drained Soil
- Prune Immediately After Flowering
- Seldom Bothered by Deer
Let the big double blooms of the pink, early winter-flowering Debutante Camellia light up your landscape this year! Hurry and order your flowering broadleaved evergreens today at NatureHills.com!
