Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

What could be better than the Ouachita Blackberry Bush (Rubus ursinus 'Ouachita') you ask? Two Ouachita Blackberry bushes! This newer variety was developed by the University of Arkansas, producing tempting clusters of shiny black berries…loads of them! In fact, the canes might become so heavy with fruit that they bend to the ground!

In spring, clusters of cheerful pinkish-white blossoms form up and down your Ouachita Floricanes, pulling in bees and butterflies from all around. This variety self-pollinates, but order enough so you can eat all you want straight from the cane and still have more to bake into whatever delicious treats that your family loves!

Pronounced 'watch-it-taw', Ouachita Blackberries give you plenty of large, glossy black, conical-shaped berries that are firm and sweet! Ripening around June depending on your climate, these are supreme snacks right off the canes! Bite into one and your mouth will be filled with rich, aromatic juice, perfect for eating fresh or turning into pies, cobblers or muffins.

Planting and Application:

The Ouachita Blackberry is thornless, so no little prickers when you want to pick them. This makes them very kid-friendly too! They give you a consistent crop year after year, starting their second year so you don't have to wait too long to enjoy them!

Plant them in your pollinator, kitchen and vegetable garden or grow them as an edible border for your yard. These are great for privacy screens and bird-friendly groupings! Use as you would any flowering shrub with fall color, that also just happens to produce snacks!

  • Huge Harvests of Black Firm Sweet Fruit
  • Early Mid-Season Variety
  • Bears A Good Crop Its Second Year
  • Pinkish White Blossoms & Purple Fall Color
  • Thornless Floricane!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Find a spot where your Ouachita Blackberry can luxuriate in full sun. The soil should be well-drained and slightly acidic. Enrich the soil with manure, mulch, compost, you’ll enjoy larger crops. Water once a week during the first year, and after that water when needed.

  • Full Sun
  • Moist, Well-Drained, Organically Enriched Soil
  • Easy To Grow & Disease Resistant
  • Prune After Fruiting
  • Mulch Beds Well
  • 200-300 Chill Hours

Your Ouachita Blackberry plants are just waiting for you to order them, then plant them around your yard and garden. This wonderful variety will give you loads of deliciously juicy berries that you and your family will love! But only if you order yours today from NatureHills.com!
