Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

The results will always be stunning with its sensational foliage and long-blooming flowers!

These boldly ornamental shrubs feature deliciously dark foliage set behind showy, long-lasting clusters of pristine white, crinkled blooms. Each year, you'll enjoy loads of bright white flowers against striking foliage. The deeply colored foliage emerges almost black in appearance. The color stays true all season long, and its incredible flowering display lasts for months.

Even though its black and white coloration is dramatic, the overall look of Pure White™ Crape Myrtle reads as neutral. The shrub supports any accent color you choose. It may be restrained in terms of color palette, but the beautiful blooms entice jewel-toned Hummingbirds and butterflies to visit. They love the bright white ruffled blooms that keep coming from early summer to fall!

These Crape Myrtles are easy-care, dependable, and disease-resistant. They are even drought-tolerant once they are established. We know that you will be in love with the beauty this shrub brings to your USDA growing zones 6 to 10 landscape.

Planting and Application:

These versatile plants can be used in the ground when the winters aren't too cold. Allow them to reach full height and spread, or hard prune to keep them much shorter if you prefer. Add several of these shrubs for a dramatic presentation. They can be grown in large containers, or in the ground!

Pure White™ is a versatile and easy-care option to use throughout your landscape. You'll gain a fabulous backdrop for entertaining, and a valuable nectar source for butterflies. Create an upscale specimen tree-from by removing the lower limbs and exposing the lovely, smooth bark to keep it as a small landscape accent tree!

Or, allow the lower branches to grow to the ground for a perfect privacy screen. This high-performing shrub draws your eye, whether you use several planted together to make an informal naturally shaped hedge or keep it trimmed for a formal hedge. The dark foliage highlights everything else planted before it!

Repeat their use along the length of your perennial bed for a bold backdrop. Or, use them all on their own in a special shrub border. Grow these out to enjoy high-end flowering privacy around your pool deck or property line. Create an outdoor garden room with flowering walls.

Plant them 12 feet apart on center, measuring from the center of one to the center of the next. Stagger a zigzagging second row if you want to see faster results! They make a wonderfully private addition to the back of your patio seating area!

In Zone 6, this plant may need to be treated like a perennial. Cut it down to the ground each spring and enjoy the new growth from the roots. It can reach three feet high by the season's end. Even Northern gardeners in Zones 3, 4, and 5 can easily grow them as a seasonal "Thriller" in containers. You'll get a designer look that stands out. #ProPlantTips for Care:

Crape Myrtles need full sun with at least six hours of direct sunlight a day. Morning sun is preferred because it will dry off the foliage from any overnight dew quickly. Plant in well-drained soil. Create a raised bed for planting, or use them in containers, if you see puddles that remain a long time after a rain event in your preferred spot. When your shrubs are young, keep them well-hydrated with soakings every few days. Move to a weekly soaking after a month, and keep it up the first season.

We recommend you give shrubs good air circulation. Plant at least 15 feet away from structures, so the air can play through its branches. Apply a three-inch layer of pine straw or pine bark mulch. Pull the mulch at least six inches away to ensure that the mulch doesn't touch the stems.

Apply an organic, slow-release fertilizer designed for flowering plants in early spring. Follow application rates on the label. Lawn fertilizers are heavy on nitrogen and will reduce flowering. Use care when fertilizing lawns with a broadcast spreader to avoid contact near your Pure White™ Crape Myrtles.

You'll enjoy the brightest foliage and boldest flower color by pruning in early spring. Remove old wood, and eliminate crossing branches. You can also hard prune to control the size at this time. Deadhead any spent flower clusters as they fade to encourage more blooms during the active growing season.

Deer seldom severely damage Crape Myrtles. Please note that if you live in an area with heavy deer pressure, you'll want to apply repellent on all new plants. Reapply according to the label directions.
