Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

Make your yard fancy and fragrant with easy-care flower power. The compact Pink Abelia (Abelia x 'Edward Goucher') features pretty, arching branches that are covered with bell-shaped blooms from summer through frost! Each lavender-pink flower is jazzed up with an orange throat for a dynamic look!

Pink Abelia Invites butterflies and hummingbirds to come for a daily visit. How nice to provide a nectar-rich resource for critical pollinators! You'll delight in the fresh fragrance of the pretty flowers. Cut long branches to use in cunning cut flower arrangements as filler or in a single species display. Also known as the Edward Goucher Abelia, they bloom in flushes over most of the season, filling out into a soft, flowering mound.

Both the stems and new growth are highly pigmented with bold color! That unique color variation adds a deeper dimension to the planting. These enchanting shrubs turn a warm bronzed purple for fall color! Blissfully pest-free, Pink Abelia is even resistant to deer!

No wonder this excellent variety won the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. Gain color and flowers to help define your garden with a charm that just won't quit. Hardy throughout USDA planting zones 5 to 9, Pink Abelia grow 3-5 feet tall and wide.

Landscape Application:

Plant them in the ground, or in large containers. Decorate your patio, deck, or balcony with these fine-textured accent shrubs. Keep them tightly clipped, or let them grow into a beautiful privacy screen. Include several of these mounded deciduous to semi-evergreen in cooler climates, to fully broadleaf evergreen (in warmer growing zones) shrubs to pump up the appeal of your landscape design.

Add just one Pink Abelia near an entryway to welcome guests in style. Or, use several in a low, informal hedge. For a fast result, plant them two feet apart on center, measuring from the center of one to the center of the next. Mass plantings allow you to appreciate the graceful arched form fully. Add successive rows in a staggered, zigzagging planting pattern, then mulch between plants until they grow together and touch.

Try a short row of Pink Abelia as a backdrop for your Victory Garden. You won't believe how many pollinators these sweet shrubs support. Use at the base of taller trees, shrubs, and Ornamental Grasses. Squeeze the most out of your design with their outstanding show all year long.

This improved Pink Abelia cultivar should be added to mixed borders to soften the look. Plan for their full height and spread to make the most of their colorful character. The xeric nature makes Abelia perfect for harsher conditions like Rock Gardens and Water-Wise Gardens.

Allow the lyrical arching stems to share a garden story with your guests. Their dramatic red stems set the stage for dialogue. Consider them your conservation starter! Even if you have a small space garden, you can elevate them in porch and patio containers for years. Enjoy their beautiful screening power behind your patio seating area and block unsightly views.

  • Bell-Shaped, Lilac Pink Fragrant Flowers Summer to Frost
  • Supports Local Butterflies & Beneficial Pollinators
  • Small, Compact, Arching Growth
  • Semi-Evergreen/Evergreen Shrub
  • Dark Green, Fine-Textured Foliage
  • Beautiful Bronze-Purple Fall Color
  • Great in Large Containers, Low Hedges & Colorful Edging

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Pink Abelia grows in either full sun or part shade. Provide your plants at least four hours of direct sunlight a day. With more sun, you'll get more blooms and a tighter form. Well-drained soil is best. You may need to mound up with a heap of additional soil 18 inches high by three feet wide to improve drainage. Add a decorative landscape border for a sophisticated raised bed. Or, plan to use this beauty as a container plant.

Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Container plants will need a medium amount of water for their whole life.

Pink Abelia blooms on new wood, so prune in late winter to shape. Remove a few of the thickest stems at ground level to keep your shrub vigorous. If you want to keep it smaller, you can conduct a hard shearing at that time. You can even cut it back to the ground to rejuvenate it, as needed.

Apply a three-inch layer of mulch over the root system, but pull it back six inches from the stems, and reapply as needed. In warmer climates, the leaves remain on the shrub. In colder zones, it will behave as a deciduous plant.

  • Full Sun & Partial Shade
  • Widely Adaptable To Any Well-Drained Soil
  • Moderate to Low Moisture
  • Prune Late Winter or Early Spring
  • Deer Don't Prefer The Taste

Make the most of your space. Choose hard-working, low-maintenance shrubs that deliver a plethora of ornamental features. The Pink Abelia is one of the best! We are so proud to offer commercial-grade plant material. Order at NatureHills.com today, and track your package right to your doorstep. Enjoy!
