Pink and red ruffles - The Strawberry Candy Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Strawberry Candy') has a wonderful color of a strawberry-pink blend with a rosy-red eye zone, a golden green throat, and ruffled edges! Backed by fountains of slender strappy green foliage, these politely spreading clumps fill your garden with luscious two-tone color!

Use the high bud count of Strawberry Candy to attract pollinators and hummingbirds, or just to add luscious color to the landscape and indoors in your bouquets! Although the blooms will last only for one day, there are many blooms on strong stems that rise above tall grassy foliage. Strawberry Candy will bloom from May through July, with outstanding color and is a definite rebloomer!

It won the Stout Silver Medal in 1998, the Award of Merit in 1996, and the Honorable Mention in 1993; one can see why! In the warmer, mild winters of USDA growing zone 4 to 9, these Tetraploid Daylilies can be semi-evergreen, but in cooler climates, Daylilies are hardy herbaceous perennials that won't be fazed by anything from deer to rabbits, pests, insects, drought, or salt spray.

Planting and Application:

Daylilies are ideal for covering large areas in drifts, as massing and grouping plants, in rows as facer plants and edging! The lush color and fringy foliage soften edges and hardscapes in borders, along walkways, in Rock Gardens and over the tops of retaining walls! Planted together in large numbers, they quickly crowd out weeds and make a carefree and colorful ground cover.

Dress them up or down, Daylilies are gorgeous additions to mixed containers and tubs where they are fillers, spillers, and thrillers! Use a pair of large urns and fill them with Strawberry Candy as the main feature and dress up either side of your front door or front steps for a fancy welcome home! Continue the theme, and plant fronts of your foundation border and along your driveway for a uniting effect!

Daylilies can survive many harsh conditions that other plants cannot. This includes city environments, slopes, poor and dry soils, near pavement that is salted in winter, and under Black Walnut trees (not affected by juglone). Create defensive zones in fire-prone areas! Daylily brightens xeric landscapes up and the fleshy roots store loads of water.

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Perennial Daylilies glow and bloom best in full sun, and these herbaceous perennials require little maintenance throughout the year to keep performing their best. Daylilies grow in almost any soil and handle drought to wet soil conditions. Provide moderate moisture while establishing, and after give your plants supplemental moisture during the worst of drought. Add a 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch over the soil surface for best results!

Deadhead to encourage a rebloom that lasts for weeks during the summer until the fall. Daylilies are susceptible to rust and some other foliage diseases so for that reason it is very important to cut all of the foliage to the ground in late fall after the plants have been exposed to a couple of frosts. Removing the foliage before winter prevents the overwintering of disease on the old leaves so it is best to always clean them up and dispose of the old foliage each year. Divide plants every few years to keep the clump size healthy and stress-free.

  • Most Blooms in Full Sun
  • Widely Adaptable - Any Well-Drained Soil
  • Moderate Moisture - Low Once Established
  • Prune Late Fall, Deadhead Regularly & Divide Every 3-5 Years
  • Very Cold Hardy & Heat Tolerant
  • Seldom Bothered By Deer, Rabbits, Salt & Pests

Strawberry Candy is one of the best Daylilies you can have in your garden! Order enough for your next project today from Nature Hills Nursery!
