The plants came in good shape

The plants came in good shape. Pots were wrapped in plastic and retained moisture and soil. They are doing great in the ground. Will purchase from this nursery again.

Glad to hear the Stay Classy Sand Cherry arrived in good condition and is settling in well. That shrub really earns its keep once established, with the deep purple foliage holding strong all season. We look forward to your next order, Gloria.

Sand Cherry Plants

The sand cherry plants arrived in good condition and they were planted the same day. So far they look happy in three different locations! I expect it will take a couple of years to see them go through their full cycle of blooming and fruiting, but the leaves are lovely in my garden.

Planting them the same day is the best thing you can do for new arrivals, so they are off to a great start. The purple foliage really does carry the show even outside of bloom season, so your garden will have good color to enjoy while the plants settle in. In a year or two when the spring flowers come in, it is a nice moment. Thanks for sharing, Theresa. The Nature Hills Team

Frequently Asked Questions

What USDA hardiness zones is the Stay Classy® Purple Leaf Sand Cherry suitable for?

  • Stay Classy® Purple Leaf Sand Cherry is hardy in USDA zones 4-8. This compact shrub thrives in both northern cold and southern heat while maintaining its warm burgundy foliage color through summer. Plant in full sun to partial shade for best color development.

What type of soil conditions does the Stay Classy® Purple Leaf Sand Cherry need to thrive?

  • Stay Classy® Purple Leaf Sand Cherry thrives in well-draining soil and tolerates a wide range of conditions from sandy to clay soils. It performs best in full sun to partial shade with consistent moisture during establishment. Shop at Nature Hills for this adaptable 3-4 foot compact shrub.

How often should I water this plant during its first year and once established?

  • Water deeply twice weekly the first year to establish the root system. Once established, Stay Classy® Purple Leaf Sand Cherry is quite drought tolerant and typically needs supplemental watering only during extended dry periods. Check soil moisture 2-3 inches down before watering.

When does the Stay Classy® Purple Leaf Sand Cherry bloom and what color are the flowers?

  • Stay Classy® blooms in early spring with fragrant white flowers that create stunning contrast against the emerging red foliage. The blooms attract early-season pollinators including native bees. While beautiful, remember this is primarily a foliage plant where the color show lasts spring through fall.

What size container does this plant ship in and what is the approximate height upon arrival?

  • Stay Classy® Purple Leaf Sand Cherry typically ships in a 1-gallon container at 12-18 inches tall. The compact shrub will reach its mature size of 3-4 feet tall and 4-5 feet wide within a few growing seasons. Plant in spring for best establishment, available at naturehills.com.

How much pruning does this shrub require and when is the best time to prune it?

  • Stay Classy® requires minimal pruning due to its naturally compact, rounded growth habit. Light shaping can be done in late winter or immediately after spring flowering to preserve next year's blooms. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches as needed throughout the growing season.
