Great price and great trees

Great price and great trees. Just sent the info to my neighbor.

Parkland Pillar Birch is a great one to share with neighbors since it works so well in tight spaces or as a repeated element across adjacent yards. Thanks for spreading the word, Ciakay. We hope both gardens enjoy them for years to come. The Nature Hills Team

The birch is doing great!

The birch is doing great! It is beautiful. Thank you for sending it and packing it so well!

Parkland Pillar Birch is a great one to watch grow, and it sounds like yours is off to a strong start. Careful packing really does make a difference when shipping trees, so we are glad that showed up in good shape for you. Enjoy it!

So far so good

So far so good. Going to order more trees

Parkland Pillar Birch is a great one to plant in multiples. A row of them creates a really striking vertical effect, especially once they establish and the bark starts to develop. Thanks for sharing, Ciakay, and we hope the next round settles in just as well.

Bought these to fill in

Bought these to fill in gaps between others I planted 6 years ago. While they do grow fast they do not spread as well as most pictures show - they remain very slender. As a side note, leaves in the spring that release from tree are very tacky and stick to shoes, feet, and pets. I still like the trees but would say they are almost more like a a windbreak hedge (albeit a 40-50 foot hedge) because of how slender they remain. Had I known 6 years ago what I know now I would have bought twice as many and planted them closer together and I would have been in good shape. As it stands now I was able to buy some Blaze Maples and offset them so there will be a nice alternation between the Poplar and Maple.

Great tree!

I have a few of these in my yard already grew naturally, but they are in the woods with the Pine Trees, so I do not get to enjoy them as much as I want when they flower, so I bought one to plant in the middle of the yard. The tree came in great shape when it was delivered, can't wait to watch it grow and flower!

Fast
Fast Growing!

I am very happy with the autumn blaze maple I bought from nature hills. It grew almost 4 feet! I;m back to get more.

Tough

This plant is tough as nails. We live @ high altitude in a semi-arid environment with lots and lots of wind. Still - it was the first plant to start budding in the spring and the last plant to lose its leaves in the fall. Need to explore pruning though - it can get wild.

Frequently Asked Questions

What USDA planting zones is the Parkland Pillar® Birch hardy in?

  • The Parkland Pillar® Birch is hardy in USDA zones 3 through 7, thriving in cooler climates. This cold-tolerant tree performs best when planted in full sun with well-drained soil and adequate mulch around the root zone.

What is the mature height and spread of the Parkland Pillar® Birch at maturity?

  • The Parkland Pillar® Birch reaches 35 feet tall with just a 6-foot spread at maturity. This narrow, columnar growth habit makes it perfect for tight spaces and formal plantings in zones 3-7. Shop at Nature Hills for this space-saving accent tree.

How fast does the Parkland Pillar® Birch grow each year?

  • The Parkland Pillar® Birch is described as fast-growing, typically adding 1-2 feet per year in optimal conditions. This columnar birch reaches 35 feet tall with just a 6-foot spread in zones 3-7. Plant in full sun with well-drained soil and mulch the roots for best growth rates.

How much sun exposure does the Parkland Pillar® Birch need—full sun, partial shade, or both?

  • The Parkland Pillar® Birch thrives in full sun conditions. This heat-tolerant variety performs best when planted in a sunny location with well-drained soil. Give it maximum sunlight exposure for optimal growth and that signature white bark development.

Is the Parkland Pillar® Birch drought tolerant once established?

  • The Parkland Pillar® Birch shows good heat tolerance but performs best with consistent moisture in zones 3-7. While it can handle some dry periods once established, this birch isn't truly drought tolerant like native prairie trees. Keep soil consistently moist and mulch around the roots for optimal health. Shop at Nature Hills for this striking columnar specimen.

How should I care for Parkland Pillar® Birch coming out of winter, like in zone 3-4 areas?

  • Apply fresh mulch around the base in early spring to protect roots and retain moisture. In zones 3-4, wait until soil thaws completely before any pruning or fertilizing. Check for winter damage on branches and remove any broken limbs cleanly.

Is the Parkland Pillar® Birch resistant to bronze birch borer or other common pests?

  • The Parkland Pillar® Birch shows good resistance to bronze birch borer, partly due to its Asian birch heritage (Betula platyphylla). Its heat tolerance in zones 3-7 also helps it maintain vigor against pest pressures. Plant in full sun with well-drained soil and mulch the roots for optimal tree health.

Can the Parkland Pillar® Birch be used as a narrow privacy screen or hedge?

  • The Parkland Pillar® Birch makes an excellent narrow privacy screen with its dense, upright habit reaching 35 feet tall but only 6 feet wide. This fast-growing birch works particularly well along patios, porches, and property lines in zones 3-7. Space them evenly for a formal hedge effect or use individually where space is limited.
