Pink Poppet Weigela (Weigela florida 'Pink Poppet') is a dwarf, dense, rounded, deciduous shrub that produces funnel-shaped shell-pink flowers that are born in profusion in June, and then with a lighter re-bloom again in late summer! The gorgeous blooms are pollinator heaven and even attract hummingbirds!

The Pink Poppet Weigela is the first in an upcoming line of Weigelas with a low-growing groundcover habit. Pink Poppet has emerald green foliage all season long that contrasts nicely with the flowers! Growing just 1-2 feet tall and 2-3 wide, these colorful little pops of color fit anywhere!

Pink Poppet Weigela has a dense, rounded form and is hardier than some other space-saving smaller cultivars. Featuring improved cold tolerance throughout USDA growing zones 4 to 8, Pink Poppet is easy to grow and very low-maintenance.

Planting and Application:

Pink Poppet Weigela's smaller size is a darling accent that works for your small garden beds, courtyards, or other spots where you'd love to have something this colorful, but just don't have the space! These would make an attractive, small hedge in your landscape, or use one as a colorful accent in your perennial beds.

Use as facer plants or low edging along an evergreen hedge or your foundation plantings that may have gotten a bit 'leggy' in their maturity. Plus you'll gain a major pop of color! Plant these gorgeous little flowering shrubs enjoyment of their colorful show! You'll enjoy the curb appeal, cut flowers, and nectar for bees and butterflies!

Pot up in planters and container gardens! Brighten porches and patios, sunny balconies, and fancy urns throughout the Cottage and Pollinator garden for height and color with ease! Accent your front door or along your pool deck with these darling bloomers!

  • Unique Tightly Packed Oval Flower Clusters
  • Maroonish-Purple Flower Heads
  • Upright Green Foliage & Slender Stems
  • Bee, Butterfly & Hummingbird Friendly
  • Unique Cut Flowers & Garden Texture
  • Great in Containers, Back Border, Vertical Interest & Specimens

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Pink Poppet Weigela is easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun for the best flowering and foliage color, but will tolerate very light or sun-dappled shade. Plant Weigela in well-drained rich soil with moderate, regular moisture. Top dress with a thick layer of wood chip mulch, but please take care to ensure the mulch doesn't touch the stems directly.

It's amenable to pruning, so you can shape it as needed but because of its compact, dwarf size and naturally tidy form, you'll appreciate its low-maintenance nature! Rejuvenate your mature Weigela by pruning out the oldest, fattest stems down to the ground every three years or so. Leave the thin, young stems to provide the most amazing blooms for you!

  • Full Sun & Partial Shade
  • Moderate Moisture Needs
  • Well-Drained Enriched Soil & Mulched Beds
  • Prune After Flowering & Renewal Prune Every 3- 5 Years
  • Deer Seldom Bother These Cold Hardy Shrubs
  • Carefree & Easy to Grow & Pest Free

Such Beautiful shrubs

I have these shrubs on each side of my driveway...Mine has grown 3'x3' They get full sun and I like to soak them 2x a week

Hello Patti,

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful experience with your Pink Poppet Weigela! We’re delighted to hear that your shrubs have grown so beautifully — a full 3’x3’ is terrific. It sounds like they’re thriving in that full sun spot, and your twice-weekly watering routine is giving them just the right amount of care. Weegies really appreciate consistent moisture but good drainage, so your approach seems spot on.

If you’re ever curious about encouraging even more vibrant blooms or maintaining their shape, a light pruning after their flowering period can really help rejuvenate growth. Also, adding a layer of mulch can aid water retention and protect roots during hot summer months.

Thanks again for taking the time to share your success, Patti. We hope your shrubs continue to brighten your driveway for many seasons to come!

Hi Patti,

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful update on your Pink Poppet Weigela! It’s fantastic to hear they’re thriving so beautifully at 3’x3’, especially with those full sun conditions and your consistent watering routine. Weigelas do appreciate that deep soak, so your care twice a week is definitely helping them flourish.

If you ever notice the blooms need a little boost, lightly pruning after flowering and adding some balanced fertilizer in the spring can encourage even more blooms next season. Also, ensuring good soil drainage will keep those roots happy over time.

We’re so glad these shrubs part of your driveway are bringing beauty and joy to your home. Please keep us posted on their continued growth!
