Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes

There is a revolution happening right now in home gardening. Not a big revolution. A small one. With so many people moving from the suburbs back into urban spaces, there is a trend of finding beautiful, small - even dwarf - plants to fit the smaller gardens! And now we have a strikingly beautiful solution for you! The Little Miss Maiden Grass (Miscanthus sinensis 'Little Miss') has all of the great traits of the well-loved Miscanthus Grasses and puts them in a small, but mighty, package.
Something these small gardens often lack is the motion and grandeur of their larger cousins since so many of the American prairie grasses are big and bold! They simply take up too much space. That all changes with the colorful, swishing, swaying motion of Little Miss! Red flowers shoot up for more color and interest and are great for floral arrangements.
Little Miss is a warm-season grass that has green, lush, graceful foliage that emerges in the later spring. As the summer wears on, the outer foliage turns brilliant red and purple that just intensifies in the fall, taking on reds, burgundies and purples. The foliage near the center, stays green, which gives a neat two-tone effect. In autumn, red flowers give way to buff-colored seed heads that hold through the winter. Wait until you see it backlit by the sun. It will make you stop in your tracks!
Planting and Application:
Plant a small drift of Little Miss to imitate the color and movement of the prairie, or just plant one individually to animate your border. Its small size is just right for decorative ceramic pots or balcony window boxes. Use as graceful edging along the fronts of your garden's beds and borders. Likewise, Little Miss is a beautiful spiller in containers and planters.
Plant en masse for hardy and adaptable displays and in rows for low privacy and property definition. Use as bird-friendly cover and nesting and let naturalize large areas for wildlife-friendly gardening. Use on hillsides and slopes for erosion control and prevent any need for dangerous mowing and maintenance.
- Green & Red Arching Grassy Foliage

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Little Miss Maiden Grass loves the full sun and grows quickly in well-drained soil that's moderately moist while they're first establishing. After these are drought-tolerant and low-maintenance perennial grasses. Prune in very early spring to clean the mound and remove old foliage. Warm-season grasses may green up later in the spring, but really shine once the hot, dry summer weather kicks in!
