Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes

Growing Zones 9-10
Mixed Babiana (Babiana spp. Mix) also known as Baboon flowers, produces Freesia-like flowers with a lemony scent. This gorgeous mix has an assorted variety of rosy magenta, bright lilac with darker centers, lilac with white accents, and dark violet purples! You may even receive red and white or blue blooms too since no two packets are alike!
Fragrant funnel-shaped Gladiolus-like flowers sprout out from long, slender flowering spikes and are surrounded by spikey sword-like leaves in bright green! These leaves have prominent parallel veins and sturdy bright green stems.
Easy-to-grow Babiana shoots up fast from Gladiolus-like perennial corms throughout USDA growing zones 9 - 11 but are fantastic annual accents in all growing zones. Northern growing zones can lift these corms in fall and store them in a dark, frost-free location for the winter.
Planting and Application:
These are fantastic vertical accents throughout the garden and the cut flower bouquet! Pollinators adore these blooms, so be sure to include rows and groupings throughout butterfly gardens and even Hummingbird gardens! These space-saving plants grow to 6-12 inches tall when in bloom and each corm produces 4-inch clumps of vivid greenery.
Ideal for adding height and visual interest to your sunny porch and patio planters, adds architectural interest and structure to the garden bed, along paths and borders, and even accenting garden benches, mailbox gardens, balcony containers, and around seating areas so you can enjoy the lemony fragrance!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
These perennial flowering summer bulbs do best in full sun and partial shade and must need well-drained soil locations. Preferring enriched soil and moderate regular fertility and moisture. Deadhead blooms as they fade but keep the leaves until they turn yellow to make food for the corm. Northern growers can treat these as annuals, or lift the corms in the fall and prune away any yellowed foliage, storing them for the winter in a cool, dark location.
